To be honest, I am shocked at this outcome and am still processing just what a market-setting QB contract does to this team in 2+ years.

And, to be fair, I am shocked that I am shocked. For nearly 2 years, we've heard from the FO that "... Dak's our guy". Jerry Jones has been negotiating with himself from the beginning and signing Dak appeared to be a foregone conclusion.

As happy as I am that the debate about signing Dak is (nearly) in the rearview mirror, I can't help but feel that, rather than setting the Cowboys up for a Super Bowl run, the scope of the contract confines the team to middle-of-the-road.

This is the kind of thinking I just can't get on board with.

Who cares if Dak won his draft class? It's about the Cowboys winning, not Dak, and the Cowboys are currently not winning.

Yes. Jerry Jones self-installed himself as general manager of the franchise over three decades ago. HIs management has been questionable almost throughout his tenure.

He made his (very obvious) long-term decision on Dak Prescott as his franchise quarterback after barely two-and-a-half months of personal evaluation. That was his prerogative and he committed to it 100%.

I am happy Jones finally completed a task only he could do and completely refuses to allow any other football qualified professional to assess and facilitate for the franchise. Debatably, the signing was a self-designated assignment Jones should have finalized as early as two years ago.

Thankfully, the franchise personnel considerations can now advance beyond the long-time shadow casted by Prescott's contract situation. A "better" general manager would have gotten what he/she wanted done many moons ago.

Overpaying for quarterbacks hasn't worked for a number of years in relation to the collective team success of reaching/winning a Superbowl. Perhaps with the supposed massive increase in the salary cap this pattern will change but currently no i'm not happy as in my opinion, the collective quality of the team will suffer and be weaker as a result of this contract which in turns decreases our chances of success. But if you have Dak Prescott in your dynasty fantasy leagues then it's party time!

What baffles me is how the whole process was drawn out just so they could play more than the player's original demands. That's just beyond dumb.

If you think he's the guy you sign him 2+ years ago and end up on the hook for like $10m/year less than they are now.
If you don't you move him and draft somebody to stay ahead of the insane QB salary inflation curve.

You don't play hardball 2+ years just so you can totally fold at the end, especially at QB where contract inflation is so extreme now.

I am happy they finally signed him to remove the uncertainty. But I am not happy with the deal itself. If the Cowboys don't win with Dak this will be a regrettable contract.

No some of us understand how the QB market works and while Dak contract is the news today within 2 years Dak contract will look much smaller than the FA QB coming down the pike.

How the QB market works and winning championships don't go hand in hand. That's the problem.

So be happy today for Dak. But Dallas took a huge L.

Now we wait until this deal is over before we can even think about competing again.

This deal was signed on a team trending down in a hurry with bad deals on the books. This was not the right deal for this team.
