Changes will be in order this year -- of that, I'm reasonably sure. Whether these changes and/or adjustments make a difference, should be an interesting process to behold. Let's just hope Quinn makes decisions that prove "peachy." We're long overdue for some good news for a change. ;)

To me the problem with the defense as a whole was too much thinking, not enough just playing
I’d rather see the LB’s attacking instead of waiting to see what’s gonna happen
Hit a hole
I’d rather see them hit the wrong hole than sit back and play catch

MM probably saw it but wanted to give Nolan as much latitude as possible. If so, big mistake on his part. But we really don't know.
MM did not have the acumen needed for intervention , right from the first game the LB play was so suspect .

We can speculate till blue in the face but We just don’t know.
During the games , I don’t see his reactions or involvement. Is this coach so isolated and just leaving each coordinator alone ? If so , what is his real value or contribution?
players notice this and just go through the motions .
His press conferences have made him more suspect .

Well, unless you’re a player you don’t know what they notice or not. You’re not in the meetings every day with him. You’re not in the locker room with him. Let’s give the man a chance instead of quitting on him so fast and easy. He has won a Super Bowl before so he deserves 3 years like any HC coach does.

How much of the linebacker's problems were from the defensive line letting the opponent's offensive lineman get to the second level?
just wondering.

Hope you’re right and he will prove to be a winner . His optics and results are worrisome . Fans deserve better after 10 years of jason clapping and making wrong moves .

I didn’t say anything to be right about just to give the man a chance.

If you watch them play, any one of them, you'll see they are mostly in reactive mode. The play starts and they hesitate and wait for a second to decide what to do. It's like they were going through a series of options on what they should do when they should be reacting instinctively. That's all on Nolan. Thank God he's gone and maybe they can get back to playing like they did before.

Smith is fine straight line but his stop start is awful. That is all him. LVE's agility is better but he plods a bit.

Both he and LVE played passive. I know that if you do not know your assignments and techniques it is a struggle to prepare for the other team. They looked lost to one degree or another except against the Steelers and the Giants.

I am willing to go into the season with an open mind. Well outside of LVE staying healthy. But as to their ability to play the position competently I can see it. Neither is lazy and both have pride.

I am most excited about the idea of Neal though. He is a 4.5 guy but he is quick, explosive and physical. Having him and Wilson on the field is going to do so much for pursuit and tackling. Their physicality in pass coverage is something this defense could really use.

We need the SAM and MIKE to do better taking on blocks. Someone with range to patrol the backend. Better coverage to pair with Diggs. Quick and meaty on the DL.

4 top 100 picks. If we can fit CB, FS, and DT in, let's roll.

Sean Lee out, KJ Wright in. Sean Lee can help coach them up. His football smarts are still there.

I think that’s an unfair assessment of Jaylon, he’s played behind a terrible defensive line and has to clean up their crap. If the Dline could stop the run, we would be singing a different tune when it comes to Jaylon.
Other teams DTs actually shed blocks and make tackles. Urban should help but I would love it if we drafted Barmore or Onwuzurike.

He was.

Him, LVE, DL and Gregory were all playing at a high level at the right time that year.

The Rams simply came up with a way to pound us inside and knew we would never adjust during the game.

Classic example of being very outcoached.

That whole refusing to ever adjust deal with Garrett was extremely maddening.
He only tackles sideways, never head on. Not a good quality to have as a LB.

He also lacks the ability to explode, plant and explode again. Makes it very easy to juke him out of his cleats.

I don't see the change at DC as anything but positive for every player. Theses guys were bad and they know it, they've been maligned by every ex player on every sports talk show.

At some point, fear of embarrassment and failure showed up because their DC was not putting them into the best possible position to succeed. Smith took the lead in speaking out about dumbing it down but that wasn't just for himself. These guys were thinking too much, they stopped playing football.

These players didn't even have an off season to get a complex and new defense down and go back to how hard it was for new players to get acclimated to Landry's Flex. Any defense that asks players to disregard years of instinct will take time to be effective and they had no time and had to deal with injuries taking the strength of the team, offense, down. The HC's weren't concerned about Dallas scoring and that greatly affected the game plans. The Cowboys became one of the easier teams to prepare for the coordinators.
