I’m completely convinced that our problem is we keep taking chances on players in free agency, picking out 3-4 reclamation projects rather than 1 or 2 reliable starters.

Give me the Jason Witten type reliable players with good injury record and professional attitude in FA every time, even if they aren’t as good, over the boom/bust or injury prone players.
We spend all our money resigning our own. Overpaying. As long as we're overpaying the Crawfords, DLaws, Elliots, Jaylons, etc.... we're not going to be able to afford much in FA.

I know people keep claiming we have plenty of cap space to sign whomever we want, but it's simply not true.

Honestly, I think the biggest impact/improvement will come not from additional talent but replacing Nolan with Quinn. Talent doesn't mean squat if it's not put in the best position to succeed.

I know nothing about anyone we picked up, so I guess I'll have to see.

There’s obviously a lot of truth to what you are saying but last year we could have traded a 6th for Calais Campbell, brought in Ogbah, and Brockers. And it would have been cheaper than the D-line players we signed, combined with the saving we would have made cutting Crawford.

History IS a guide, just not a bottom line. There are SO MANY variables. People evolve and change, sometimes for better and sometimes worse. Economic conditions, ideaologies, technology—-circumstances altered by time and perception. There are so many variables that affect overall success, and Super Bowl win percentages are very low. The quickest, easiest assumption for failure is incompetence. Now, I’m not trying to excuse the team’s mistakes or shortcomings, just enjoying the normal hope and optimism that proliferates this time of year.

We're so bad in FA because we have non-football people running the show.

And you're lame, really really dumb, and don't have a clue about pretty much anything. If you threw a slug on the keyboard, he'd post more sense than you.

This year the Cowboys have added long-snapper Jake McQuaide, tackle Ty Nsekhe, safeties Keanu Neal, Damontae Kazee and Jayron Kearse, linebacker Tarell Basham and defensive linemen Carlos Watkins and Brent Urban.

Collectively, that group will count $12.712 million against the salary cap.

*If* we keep them all.

But they're only counting money applied to the cap this year, not the dead money from signing and/or keeping them this year.

The "record number" doesn't mean much in terms of improving the team. Neal looks like the most significant signing, and he's a role player. Everyone else is depth. Kazee is paid like they don't even expect him to play this year.

We're not 12m better but some of that won't count against the cap when all is said and done.

Yes. Haters can hate, but it’s not just that it’s we are healthy. Not to mention the upgrade of Quinn over Nolan.

Urban, Watkins will help the interior depth. Basham will help keep Gregory fresh.

Ty is an upgrade over Knight and Steele.

Neal and Kazee help the secondary out. Neal helps fill a need as the 3rd linebacker as well. We get rid of Darian Thompson and Xavier Woods from starting.

We have a bounty of draft picks. It’s not fancy and we could still use a little outside help (Wright, Hayward). But I feel with our offense, the defense can just be average we will make the playoffs

Getting rid of Nolan was the one biggest thing that made me hopeful as the last season wrapped up. I thought for sure we would be saddled with him for one or two more season. I guess you don’t give up a franchise a high points and survive, even in this clown show.

Then again, the big name/money signings of the past didn't quite pan out either.
