When MM staff was brought in everyone said ehh OK guess Nolan was best he could do.
Quinn was an architect of legit defenses on both pro and collegiate levels.
If he can make this works remains to be seen but his reputation around the league is farrrr higher than that of Mike Nolan.
Yes, they had limited options at the point they hired Nolan. There were rumors that they wanted somebody else but that person went elsewhere.
New Head Coaches often don't get all of the assistants that would be their #1 choice.
Teams must wait on hiring the assistants until they've hired the HC which makes it difficult to get the preferred assistants at that point in time.
The Cowboys said after they hired Kiffin/Marinelli that they wanted to play a defense similar to Seattle.
- Quinn had been the Seattle DC at that point and took the Head Coaching position the same year the Cowboys hired Kiffin/Marinelli.
Back when the Cowboys hired Wade Phillips, it was done in order to get him as the D-Coordinator.
- They have had difficulty hiring D-Coordinators unless they hired them as Head Coach.
