Started Jupiter's Legacy.

Got halfway through the first episode. Not sure about this one yet.
Very hit and miss. Seems like it was two completely different shows. It's definitely the weakest of these types of Superhero shows (The Boys, Umbrella Academy, Doom Patrol, Invincible, etc.)

But I'd still give it a go if you're into that. And of course they are all based on comics/graphic novels so there is a lot of lore, even with Jupiter's Legacy.

Okay, I haven't seen Venom, but I just adore the Mrs. Chen interaction in the Venom 2 trailer.
That is right up my alley.
Is the first movie good?
It's been awhile. I don't think it's up there with some of the top marvel movies but it was okay. (I'm pretty picky about shows/movies) I think the story was a little uneven but pretty good action. It's got a pretty good score on imdb 6.7 and rotten tomatoes audience score is 81%. It does have Mrs. Chen in the original as well. For Spider-Man fans they decided to erase the Venom connection to Spider-Man entirely but kept Eddie Brock as the host.

It’s definitely not as good as most of the current superhero films, but it did surprisingly well at the box office. And that of course is why we have the sequel coming.

I still can't find it for free on any of my streaming services...and from what I've heard, I'm not paying extra.

I know what you mean. I purchase a lot of digital movies and I’ve watched the price on this one and Shazam (two I don’t own) and neither gets to the $4.99 price point of what I’m willing to pay for films of that quality.

I am watching Shadow and Bone but after 3 episodes I am losing my patience. Of course I will stick it out to the end but some of the plotlines are aggravating. I am not a fan of obsession of any kind in any movie. When I see a character obsessed with an idea, or exhibiting determined obstinance, it just pisses me off and I get no enjoyment out of what I am watching. I don't want to give away too much so I will stop there.

This show reminds me of Warrior Nun. Or maybe Warrior Nun was derived from the Grisha books? - seemingly ordinary teenager obtains special power, stubbornly refuses to accept her destiny, even if it means the end of the earth, blah, blah, blah. Second verse same as the first. I like Warrior Nun better despite similar flaws in the story.

I suspect the success of Game of Thrones, based on the books of George RR Martin, convinced someone that creating a series based on the Grisha trilogy could be just as successful. I will keep an open mind because I have seen other series that were pretty horrible for 4 or 5 episodes only to redeems themselves at the story progressed. Maybe S&B will too.

Felt the same way and it did get better, just as Warrior Nun did. I didn't know anything about the story so it took me a while and I had trouble hearing the dialogue in Ep 1.

The show combines 2 books. Shadow & Bone and Six of Crows. I only read SoC and the follow up to that which was Crooked Kingdom. Six of Crows was excellent, but neither featured the Alina Starkov storyline. There were still Grisha and some crossover characters, but the young girl with powers who saves the world wasn't the emphasis. More about Kaz Brekker and his crew in the Barrel and putting together a team to pull off a heist. TV series is solid and it ended well, but thought a Six of Crows standalone would've been better. The current version we're seeing is the plan with most shows these days. Young girl who will grow up to save the planet. Didn't see that coming? lol But Six of Crows is worth a read. Gives a little more insight to the alternate story going on.

It took me a while to really get into Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I recently re-watched the whole series...again.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer is one of television's best fantasy/comedy/drama series of all-time.

Yeah. I said it. And I meant it. :starspin:

Even so, it took a few episodes into the first season before I fully committed as a fan. I loved the campy cult movie that the series was based upon. It took three or four episodes before I stopped caring about the changes made in the series that differed from the movie. I was completed sold by that time.

Stupid Buffy trivia: Double Best Actress Academy Award winner Hilary Swank played in the movie. :muttley:

Started watching series called Chambers on Netflix. Star Ed out promising but imo it went off the rails. Wife finished the last few episodes while I farted around on my tablet.

I never cared for the movie, and I'm a huge Kristi Swanson fan. IIRC, the only reason I started watching the series is because I saw Charisma Carpenter in the ads for Angel, so I started watching that first. Once I got a few episodes in, I started watching Buffy, and the gags were hilarious, and often clever, but I think what I found funniest was the way they intentionally butchered the English language to create their own type of slang.

Didn't watch it the first time, and just a couple weeks ago tried to start it but didn't make it past the 1st episode. Sounds like I need to go back and power through the first few epis before I decide.

Watched an older movie with Colin Farrell "Dead Man Down" and it had a nice John Wick feel to it because I dig revenge movies. Only drawback is this hole between the events creating his vendetta and him becoming this one man army. He must have had some instant badass juju.

You need to go into it understanding that they don't take it seriously. It's meant to be campy.

Like the movies where a girl gets karate lessons for a few weeks and now she's beating up military trained men twice her size!

Finished Jupiter's Legacy last night. Enjoyed it. Little short IMO. I hope there is a season two.

Just my opinion. The first six episodes are:
  • Welcome to the Hellmouth
  • The Harvest
  • Witch
  • Teacher's Pet
  • Never Kill a Boy on the First Date
  • The Pack
These first six episodes establish Buffy's significance, her mission, her inner circle of friends and their diverse personalities, and the importance of the town of Sunnydale. Teacher's Pet is the episode that completely hooked me.

In my opinion, the show will not appeal to anyone who reaches The Pack episode and still does not like it. The first half dozen leads up to the seventh episode, Angel, which sets the foundation of the debut season's story arc.

Again. Just my opinion for which I could be completely wrong. Everyone likes what they like and dislike what they do not like.

I remember watching the pilot episode of Star Trek | The Next Generation, Encounter At Farpoint, and getting so disgusted at watching the primary and secondary hulls of the Enterprise separate that I turned it off. Was not used to seeing the Federation's flagship split into pieces. :p And while at warp of all things.

About a year later, I was channel surfing and began watching the eleventh episode, Contagion, just for the heck of it and got hooked. Maybe that kind of thing may happen for you if your next try watching Buffy strikes out too. :)
