What was so wonderful about his career?
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Bradie was totally overrated. Picked the wrong hole, got blocked to the 3rd level and ran around like a spaz half the time. He did make a bunch of tackles 5 to 10 yards deep though so I guess there’s that. Maybe Jaylon was watching his tape last year

Both 4th Round picks, both linebackers, both from LSU, both Big and tall LBers, Bradie of course had a wonderful career with us. Is it me or is this guy very exciting to have in our roster? Give him #56!

I hope to goodness not. I cannot erase the image of Denver at Texas Stadium. Dallas took them to OT, and Denver ran off tackle. Bradie James was in the hole and did the Ole' tackle.

For the great unwashed, he totally missed that running back. I have to disagree with you. James was mediocre.

What's it going to be then, eh?

The only real similarity is the college.

Bradie James was a horrific player in coverage. Cox should be much difference.

I just remember the days where at various times throughout the game, the opponent could exploit him.

I can see that.

"Here Jaylon, watch how the best at best at looking like a clown out there got it done."

Better comparison, Darren Woodson, a undersized linebacker in college that could cover moved to safety, that's where Cox belongs..

Scouts notes on Risen:

Good straight line speed.
Fast but not quick.
Lacks loose hips to get in and out of breaks.
Will block for you.
Can't catch.
(lol)
Plays much better in a "likes" year.

Those guys couldn't be more different.
Bradie had 2 career interceptions.
Cox had 1 in his first 7v7 practice.

Cox is a finesse guy that came from playing offense to defense on D2 to 1 year at LSU.
He's a prototype Will in the modern era. A 1 to 1 replacement for Joe Thomas with some upside. He should play some passing downs year 1 and hopefully he steps up as you get cheaper at LB.

Bradie was an inside thumper and run stuff guy.

Bradie James and Roy Williams (the safety) were very solid to start their careers but were rendered obsolete as passing games evolved over the course of their careers.

I thought Carter was destined to be our next great LB. I still like him, but he didn't live up to the hype. Carter actually had 5 ints in 2014. He was fun for awhile.
Carter - the great LBer hope.
Problem was, he was dumb as a rock. Came from and was part of the academic scandal at North Carolina. Look like Tarzan, but was lost in the jungle.....
Hopefully these players are a whole lot smarter !

Brodie was a box player, 100%. Cox is a space player with a real knack for getting the ball.

He isn’t nearly the run stopper that Bradie was but is 20 times better in coverage.

So really, you can’t compare much beyond their school, their round drafted and their position. It is a natural thing to do though, so no big deal.

If Cox can become sound in the run game, we could have found ourselves a football player. As it is, he’ll be valuable in the nickel/dime packages.

maybe Cox ends up being like Bucs Shelton Quarles an ex-pro bowler who played both outside and middle LB at only 6'1, 225.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shelton_Quarles

He could be a typical Bucs of the 90s type LB smallish but- terrific athleticism, instinctive, tremendous vs pass, and a turnover creator.

At the least A Shelton Quarles, ..and at the biggest hope - Derrick Brooks.

Not only that but Cox could even evolve into a team captain at some point down the line. - Much like Brooks did.

Bradie James was another one of those decent - serviceable.
And another one that this Cowboys team vastly overpaid because they forcibly
envisioned him as a extraordinary player and leader. He was more Anthony Hitchen like.

A try hard effort guy and citizen who end up being very durable, and leading his team in tackles. But just like Hitchen
he wasn't a big playmaker, he won't be a factor in coverage in either turnovers, big plays or matching up in coverage.
Not a pro bowler - just average- adequate guy.
