If Jerry really wanted to win why not buy all tickets

Here is a cray-cray hypothetical. Just for a single game, Jerry Jones buys all the tickets back. Every one. Then invites everyone to come to the game. First-come first-served. Then he posts security at every game to stop any non-Cowboys fan from entering the stadium.

Yep. Cray-cray but I am not sure how far off is an expectation of him buying all the tickets back from 49er fans either.

That’s been done many times
Then you give them away and write them off
But today there is a massive secondary market and most aren’t sold by a guy hawking tickets on the corner
I stand corrected. Has this practice been done previously for re-acquiring tickets already purchased by opposing fans?

Jerry is a business man, just like you.....it's about making money......I don't see anything wrong with that.
Nothing wrong with it.

I think Jethro would be beloved by all and possibly considered one of the great owners of this era if he just got out of the way with football operations.

But because his insistence of remaining GM, wearing all of the hats and the face of Cowboys football there’s a resentment that he has placed making money and his personal celebrity football ambitions above winning .

And then either give away or sell to cowboys fans at face value. When you’re a billionaire you can do whatever. Instead he wants talk a good game. Don’t complain when is 30% plus niners fans today.
You really expect a lot from an owner or is it just JJ

This guy thinks 30% of the fans being SF fans is what will decide this game
Personally, I’ll be surprised if SF fans make up 30% just based in my experience of going to every playoff game in the last 30 years. My guess is it’ll be in the 10-15% range. But regardless of what it is, you are absolutely right, if the Cowboys lose, it won’t be because of the 49er fans there.

He is one in a committee. That’s been verified by ex coaches such as Parcells on the other hand something is wrong

I actually do not recall the winer's fan base being this ecstatic in the past. Are they a traveling menace like GB or Pitt fans?
Yes, they packed the house in LA last week but that's a 3 hour drive and the LA fans are worthless.
But then again there's the DC fans who sit with their phones in one hand taking selfies while being mesmerized by the giant screen above the field.
I miss Texas Stadium.

I did not say there was anything wrong with it. I simply agreed with the post I replied to, which was true. Jerry's definition of winning is very different than that of Cowboys fans.

A LOT of San Francisco tech companies moved to Austin over the last few years so there is a large 49ers fan base in that and other surrounding areas now.

If I remember correctly, there was a time back in the 1980's where either the owner at the time, Bum Bright, or someone high up in the organization bought up all remaining tickets for a few games in order to avoid television blackouts.

It has happened before...
This is not what the guy is talking about, buying up remaining tickets to avoid a blackout.

His suggestion is RIDICULOUS.

When has any owner in any professional sports league ever done that before?

Probably never.
But in the past, local radio and TV stations bought out the remaining tickets so a game could be televised. Then they gave them away to charity.
And this has happened nation wide.

But, that was mostly when the team still had the tickets left, and not controlled by STH's or corporate offices, selling them at a profit. They bought at face value from the team.
However with the outrageous prices now being asked, they will not do this. Not that TV blackouts are the issue, but having the home team fans there.

Actually it was the local TV affiliates who bought up the remaining tickets to avoid the local blackouts.

In 2009, the year AT&T opened, Jethro helped bring in new rules regarding local blackouts which included reducing the time from 72 hours to 24 while also allowing franchises to buy up remaining seats and brokering off tickets themselves.

We can resent ownership of business we still patronage but lobby for change much like we can resent leadership in our country but still support and argue for change.

It’s complicated. Sometimes like a bad marriage or like we’d still support a family member who we don’t always support their actions and decisions.

In the end we don’t have to support all of the moving pieces to support the sum. I’d argue it’s more about us losing a part of what we love than Jethro winning.

Yes, back in the day to thwart a potential "black-out" in the DFW market the local CBS affiliate would purchase the remaining tickets. This was probably in the late 70's.
