Twitter: Back Judge Doesn't Spot The Ball Bucs/Rams Game

the ball was spotted,
"Umpire is the primary for spotting the ball," Dean Blandino, the NFL's vice president of officiating from 2013-17, explained on Twitter. "But on a deep pass like that the Back Judge will spot the ball. Goal is to be as efficient as possible."
So it appears that a 44 yard pass is longer than a 17 yard run and slide, looks like it was done correctly for the last time.

how is that correct? He was 32 yards behind where Dak slid and had to fight his way through the line. Blandino is a dumazz! He’ll defend anything! There was a clear difference on how these plays were handled when they should’ve been handled the same way!

Yes a difference that was explained both plays were correctly done. The biggest problem was Dak in the way and the center spotted it wrong. MM said they practice this play twice a week but then went on to say he told Dak next time only go 10 yards, so what I get from that is they practice it wrong. Bad play, poor execution, bad coaching. Believe what makes you feel good but it all falls on Dallas and it’s coaches.

I think the refs did screw up that last play and I think they were not going to do it a second time in the Bucs/Rams game.

That said.. the run play was still wrong to be called. Dak still ran too far. We still faced an improbably pass for a win.

So I'm comfortable to think that the ref stuffed up/got in wrong position.. but equally comfortable to believe it did not materially lose us the game. MM, KM and Dak lost us the game.

Also.. look at the hustle by the Stafford.. and the whole Rams team.. compare that to our last play.. we were just sloppy.. everyone seemed really slow.. and if it was a designed run.. then why not direct snap to pollard to save time? Or even a guy like Wilson (who can pass the ball to still give them that thought)..? I can watch that last play 100 times but I still just do not get how any kind of metric puts that as our best chance. I just do not get it.

Look where the ump is and he’s still walking at the time of the slide. Then look at the ref on the defensive side! In the Ram game that guy was in spotted the ball and was already in a back pedal before the QB was under center. With 14 seconds on the clock there’s no way they should’ve ran and no way the back judge is the correct guy to spot the ball. It makes no sense at all considering the position of the other ref.

Go to post #65. Picture wouldn’t paste here?!

We lost in the first quarter with -13 offensive yards and being down 10 points. We then cemented the loss with having the ball with 2:30 left and 3 timeouts in a one score game in the 4th quarter and didn't execute. The last 14 seconds was irrelevant. We had our chances and we blew it because we choked.

Yeah, I'm done with these threads.

Dallas had 59 minutes and 46 seconds to not be in that situation. They trailed the entire game and lost.

That's no the point the guy's making stop trying to be a hero on every thread , people have right to their opinions and others may wanna discuss.

If you don't like it, don't respond. We don't to hear you tell us

I'm talking facts that are on video.

You're the one whining as usual.

Where is the fact that if you spot a ball 2 yards from where it is supposed to be spotted that it is somehow the ref responsibility to run as fast as he can to correct your mistake or dishonesty? You just don't know what facts are.

We've constantly seen example after example of awful refereeing and highly biased refereeing around the league. Why do the refs hold no accountability? Why should teams have to constantly compensate for a refs either inability to do the job or his corrupt calls? Aren't they professionals that should be expected to perform their job as well?

How fun would it be to watch a boxing match where one boxer can continually hit under the belt and do illegal tactics with no warning or point deduction, but the other guy must box perfectly or constantly get points taken away? And yet in football, we're supposed to act like these WWE refs don't exist and one team is just supposed to play better to such an extent to compensate for that. Not going to happen when teams are evenly matched. In that instance, the refs are able to directly control the outcome of the game. You can only play so good against competition that is a similar level. Having refs that are constantly penalizing you while ignoring the other team is literally tilting the game in favor of one team. If nothing is done about the refs, we just need to admit that football is just lightweight scripted entertainment like wrestling and not an actual competitive sporting event.
I agree it has been bad, I keep hearing their is no accountability for bad officiating and that's not true, they have a merit system for certain games and they get reviewed and scrutinized internally and some have been let go. You will never hear them say or admit that for any particular game. They could certainly do a better job of transparency that's for sure.

2 yards away: lie

If its 2 yards or 2 inches, whats the difference, it would still need to be re-spotted if the official saw it was spotted wrong. You seem to purposefully be ignoring the main point, if the ball was spotted wrong because of mistake or dishonesty why should he be required to be speedy?

Stop with your lies and whining. The referees are biased. It's on many videos. You're just hating because you hate Dak. That's your right, but to lie and whine about it is childish.

That must have been difficult to overlook the 7 seconds the camera was on Stafford, and the ref clearly backing up from the play
