Before you go saying adios, seeya wouldn't want to beya or something else along those lines, hear me out.

I have been wondering if my loss of passion for the Cowboys is just the aging process or is there something else causing that and I think I am on to it. I do not have that proprietary attachment to the Cowboys I once had.

When I became a fan, they were my team. Really MY team, I felt more than just a fan, they were mine. I had a special relationship with them and almost felt I knew them.

No owner sends the message louder or clearer that this is his team than this one. He even went so far to tell the fans if you don't like it, plop down 140M of your own money. And since then, it's only gotten worse.

Not only do he and his son spend their time telling us that this is their team but they insult my fantelligence by trying to sell their way is the way. No other owner in sports history has spent more time trying to sell lemonade and eventually it becomes an insult. Do they really think I am that stupid? Just because I am a fan?

The bragging and boastfulness of the Joneses negates any "this is my team" thinking. It's all about them.

Tex Schramm was a master marketer and he had this knack for making the Cowboy accomplishments inclusive for the fans. I can still recall the pc when he established the largest radio network in NFL history and was responsible for establishing the Dallas Cowboys as Mexico's team, as well as New Mexico and Arizona. He made it about us, the fans. He said we were the reason that happened. It was look what we did.

This detached feeling I have when I watch this team play has become the norm so it doesn't bother me as much but when I watch them play, I know I am watching someone else's team play, not mine.

I realize there is no logic or rationale attached to being a fan but that's what has happened to me, I am now a fan because I've been a fan for so long. If not for the history, I would not choose this team today.

The problem is that I do not think I will ever get that feeling back again. That this is MY team feeling. And that makes me sad because one should never outgrow their passion.

This is not a complaint thread or a bash the owner one as I do not think he did this intentionally, it just happened because he let his ego take over. And a lot of what he's been doing is trying to chase the Jimmy Johnson ghost away but along the way he took my pride of ownership of my team away from me.

it is still my favorite NFL team but it is not MY team.
Why do you feel entitled for the Cowboys to be YOUR team? They were 12-5 last year and the whining here is pathetic. I suggest you go root for some other team. SMDH.

People like us have seen pro football evolve from a real sport built on the concept of the best man wins to a Hollywood Extravaganza and everyone gets a trophy mentality and with one primary theme in mind, make more money

Truth is coach it's not you, it is just not as fun as it used to be thanks to way too many rules, all the rules that are in place now most of them the refs can't even figure out anymore, some are very good and needed rules "protect against concussions" but others are not, also and most importantly the NFL has given referees too much power over the game with very little transparency. There needs to be some changes and there will be but it will never be the organization it once was. there will be many that will be fine with the new NFL.
This thread tells the sad story of a great franchise that is living way past its days of relevance. All that has been said is true. Arrogant, corrupt and tone deaf ownership, Dad and his son and daughter. In addition to the ownership is the dramatic change in interests. The players do not care about winning. This is a business and they are in it to make as much money as they can before their careers come to a sudden end.
I do not blame them. No league is more atrocious to their players. If you get hurt you are cut and sent packing. There is no loyalty in a business that works to separate money from their fan base and deposit the booty into their bank accounts. And now we have the NFL making money on gambling. They even advertise, how to do it and how to do it responsibly, as if gambling addiction can be handled by Steve Mariucci telling us to have a plan.

The bottom line is that winning for the sake of glory and history is out the window. Now it is painfully obvious the entire league is about MONEY, plain and simple. While I was watching the Super Bowl it came to me that the NFL wanted LA to win. Why? It is all about the revenues related to videos, jerseys, caps that are sold to the fans of the "victorious" team. It is simple. Are you going to sell more merchandise to LA fans or Cincinnati fans? You do not have to be a sophisticated marketer to figure that out. So the Rams get the ball with about 7 minutes left in the game. I turned to my best friend and told him that LA was about to win the game. This was even as I watched the LA offense do nothing in their last 7 possessions. But this was set up for LA to win. Twice the LA offense faced fourth downs. The first was fourth and three and the second time it was fourth and one. They failed to make either first down. But wait, the referees were there to do the rest. Phantom penalties led to real life red flags flying. Guess what? First downs awarded by the zebras. Shockingly and transparently giving the win to LA. Rah, rah, the Rams win, let the sales begin!!

Maybe it's because I've known CC for several years, but I didn't take away the same thing as you did. When he said what he did about not following the team, I'm certain he meant "not following them as closely", meaning he wouldn't know all the stories we read about here, and such. I also think that was as much about expressing his enjoyment of the posters here as it was his disappointment with the team.

Not everyone is going to take away the same thing for my post. Most here see things differently.

In the 32 years (seasons) since Jerry Jones has owned the Dallas Cowboys, his franchise has only accumulated 10 winless seasons (below .500 record per season). That's a 68.75% moderate or winning seasons average (22-10). Not bad for an NFL football franchise.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/dal/index.htm

Looks like Jerry Jones has tried to constantly build a winner, and his 22-10 record in 32 seasons proves that, especially the past 6 seasons (5-1: only losing season was in 2020 when Dak suffered a devastating injury to his leg barely 4.5 games into the season, thus it drastically affected the team the rest of the way with a 6-10 season record) when it comes to .500 record or better (above a losing record). So, it's hard to believe Jerry has not been trying to build a winning team. He always has. The real issue is he's failed to reach a Super Bowl in 26 years. If that is what one is upset about, it's understandable, but it doesn't mean Jerry has failed at trying to always build a winning team.

A lot of people have lost interest in following this team closely. Heck I would rather watch Curling from the Olympics than the Cowboys with Dak.

Best I can figure is that he gets some odd sort of thrill from attacking people. Just one of the strangest things I've ever observed, how a few little dudes just go around attacking and insulting people. Very strange.
I guess he feels "attacked".

And the reason they failed to achieve that? It's literally Jerry Jones and "his way" and the culture he creates for the team. He does want to win, but it's not his priority. His priority is winning it his way, even if it's proven for so long to be a failure. He even stated years ago that if he had a GM under him with the record he does as a GM, he'd have fired him. So on some level he knows he's part of the problem. That just proves his heart isn't fully on winning. Winning is good, but it's not the priority.

I’ve only been a fan during the Jerry years but I feel the same way for different reasons.

The painful reality is that Jerry hasn’t been able to adjust to the salary cap era. And rather than replacing management like any legit franchise would do, he gives himself a raise every year and pulls out the snake oil.

The Jones family doesn’t care about the fans or winning, and obviously they’re going nowhere. That’s the realization that fundamentally changed my attitude towards the team.
This, although I have been fortunate enough to be a fan since I was about 5 yrs old back in 1972. But I totally agree with the Jerry assessment
