Glad you were exonerated but what really sucks is the financial loss that so many people have to forfeit just to prove their innocence. Like a lawyer or a judge really cares.
Stories like his are why I call the legal system the "Legal System" and not "Justice System." Justice MIGHT be meted out but doing so is absolute NOT the #1 goal of the system. The goal of the system is feed itself. Too many lawyers are basically playing Madden against one another using your life as their play toys. In the end in too many cases for them it's just about winning or losing against the other side and almost nothing to do with guilt or innocence. But lest anyone accuse me of longing for "the good old days" let me say from the rip, there has never been any such thing in this country. At least not for poor people.. and.. well.. you know..

Far be it from me to break up this he-didntdo-nuthing moment but can the accused Sam Williams play?

And for the apologists out there, rarely do people get accused for no reason. Rarely.
Even slam-dunk cases such as O.J.'s get derailed by recants, witnesses who don't show up, idiot juries, missing weapons and the vissisitudes of D.A.s
Blimey, have you ever met a criminal who says he's guilty?

Wiill Smith, Snoop, Robert Blake and millions of non-celebrities have beaten the rap on technicalities, so I tend to believe the prosecutors and not the perps.

Face it, Jerry likes bad boys and those "wrongly accused." He can't stay away from them.

I don't think anyone said people are "accused for no reason." But people are frequently falsely accused. Both things can be equally true. And yes, I have met more than a few criminals who has said he was guilty. Most will try to rationalize and justify their acts, but they still state without hesitation that "Yeah, I did it.. but here's why.. "

How in the hell are you putting Will Smith and Beretta in the same sentence? Robert Blake was a murderer….

Once again we’ve used a second round pick on a player with off the field concerns.

Thank God you had the means to pay a competent lawyer to defend you. Many accused don’t have that privilege and have to rely on sometimes apathetic or inexperienced public defenders.

just like many , it’s hard to get your good name back from a sometimes overzealous prosecutor.
Yeah it was definitely a nightmare! I’m extremely thankful that my parents were financially capable of assisting me.

There’s definitely a ton of people in prison for crimes they didn’t commit. Detectives, DAs, etc… don’t like to be wrong when they arrest somebody. Unless you have a strong legal team, it’s very difficult to beat no matter if you’re truly guilty or not. It also takes a lot of money for top lawyers which is another reason why our justice system is broken. It’s guilty until proven innocent, not the other way around.

It was probably the worst eight months of my life. I couldn’t go out anywhere. I ended up moving out of my hometown when everything got dismissed. My name was ruined, I couldn’t live there anymore

'This is his shot to get it right.'
Ole Miss standout Sam Williams has made mistakes. His son is motivation to never make them again.
OXFORD • Each and every time he gazes upon the face of his son, Sam Williams can’t help but think about where he’s been, what he’s been through, what he’s done and where he’s going.

Sam Jr. — or S.J., as his family calls the 1-year-old — is Williams’ chance at something better than he had. And it’s constant motivation to stay the course.

The star Ole Miss defensive end grew up in rural Alabama. He and his siblings were taken from their mother’s custody when he was just 6 or 7 years old. He was raised by his grandmother and then with an aunt. At one point in his life, he lived on the floor of a friend’s living room…….
Tough upbringing
Hope things work out for him.

Yeah just imagine the people who don’t have the money to spend on it. System is completely broken.

And that was a discounted rate because he was my dad‘s business lawyer. I remember his exact words “Im charging you $10,000 just to prove you’re not guilty. If you were truly guilty, this would be well over $50,000“. That’s insanity! But when your 24 year old son is facing prison for something he didn’t do, you have no choice but pay up! I was fortunate enough that my parents could help. I feel bad for ppl who don't have the money to “prove” their innocence!

I have a friend who spent a year in prison, because he couldn't afford to fight it. He would've lost his house, leaving his wife and kids with no place to go. If you win a court case, the opposition should have to reimburse your costs.

You didn't read the article.

No, but one of the first things they mentioned on NFL network after the Cowboys made the selection was he fell because off the field concerns. Here we go again! The thread is about how he grew up rather than discussing his football accomplishments. I’ve seen this with Randy Gregory and other players we’ve gambled on in the draft. Williams was suspended and charged with sexual battery. The Cowboys can’t seem to stop taking gambles on players like this. Our second round pick from last season Joseph may end up getting released or suspended. There were reports of character concerns with him after we drafted him.

I was gonna say that. This kid had it really rough growing up. I got ppls that live in rural alabama. And when you poor there u like 3rd world poor. Grats to him. Having a 1 year old kid will keep him moving in the right direction

When the lights comes on for a dude like this sky is the limit. His background and his son may serve to provide fuel for the fire.

His sexual assault charges got dropped a few months later which tells me there was absolutely no evidence backing up accusations.

I will never judge somebody solely of accusations. In my younger years, I was accused of a severely serious crime that I did not commit (Non sexual)! I had newspaper articles written about the incident, news crews outside of my home and my face plastered all over the news. Everybody thought I committed the crime because I was arrested & charged with it. $10k in lawyer fees and 8 months later the DA dismissed the charges as not one piece of evidence led to me.

It sucks that we live in a world where people judge others simply off of accusations. Nobody even cares about the outcome, everybody will consider Sam along with everybody else in those shoes as the accusations made against them.

So… Yeah, I couldn’t care less about accusations without guilty verdicts.
I agree, in this Rush to judgment culture we live in you are Guilty until proven innocent.

If Sam Williams is just half of the success as a pass rusher that he was in college, he'll be a blessing with the Cowboys!
Welcome to the Dallas Cowboys, Sam -- you're just what we need to bring this team to its rightful return to glory!

Here's hoping you find a way to resist having the entitled attitude that so many of our young players have, you'll be fine!
