How the heck is Philbin back again?

Wanted this guy Joe Philbin gone. If he was a oline guru he should be able to turn chicken poo into chicken soup. But nothing he did changed Williams or made Collins motivated to perform up to standards. But I digress on Joe just a wee little bit as he didn't draft either of those guys so I am willing (like I have a choice) to see what he can do if you will with a blank canvass this season. If our line is pathetic and can't run block then Joe needs a middle of the season pink slip. After Nolan was replaced we saw a remarkable difference in the defense and hope to see even more of a difference this season. So Philbin got a pass from Jerry but he should be on a short leash if it turns out no better than last season.

If you think those coaches do not process "what do the Joneses want here?" as part of their job, then you are correct. The GM freely admitted to getting the game plan every week before the game, why do you think that is?

Have you ever heard any HC, on any level of the game, say he had nothing to do with the play calling after a game? Why would he do that? Was that his decision or was he ordered to stay out of it?
..when I heard MM was quoted saying that, I also felt that was huge red flag. Almost like coaching staff was not on par/sync with each other. Or told to bite their tongue, if called to do so.

Mafia crap, in the game of football. Only in Drama Dallas.

Yep, I have never even heard a coach hint at that after a loss.

What I think has happened is that McC was so hot for the job that he agreed to anything to make Booger comfortable, the real goal in that interview. However, this took on a life of its own and is worse than he imagined. His owner made him uncomfortable with all of that Payton stuff on purpose.

And do you think that is lost on any possible future HC candidates? Why would any HC work for such a dbag?

and Jimmy wanted Shula and that did not work out either. McCarthy is the HC he should have the assistance coaches he wants.

My point is, sometimes a person should not get exactly what they want. It should be mostly the HC decision, but if the decision is based on the good ol' boy network rather than ability to adapt to modern football then there is a problem.

..sounds bad, CC. Anyway you put it. If that's the case MM is probably hating his days in Dallas, but reluctantly shows up all smiles for media. My guess money does overlook some things.

He has no choice, he decided to dance with the devil. The money will surely help but if this season starts out poorly, he may wish he'd never come to Dallas.

He should visit with Wade about coaching for Booger. Things were bad enough and then the rumors started up about clandestine meetings at Booger's house with some of the players. No HC wants to hear that and few ever have. Then he knew what was happening, the son was working his father's ears to get his buddy in as HC. The son is a reptile.

McC has to deal with his two coordinators, and one mysteriously took himself off the HC market abruptly, and Payton hanging around in the shadows. Can you imagine the team meetings with his two coordinators and the Joneses sitting in? With that Jones family, McC is going to think he's a chuck roast in waiting in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I don't know what McC's walk away money is but I'll bet that's been a discussion around his house.

So you believe MM should not be held accountable for the way team performs or how mentally ready they are prior to each game?

Will this save MM if he has another disappointing playoffs?

If you think those coaches do not process "what do the Joneses want here?" as part of their job, then you are correct. The GM freely admitted to getting the game plan every week before the game, why do you think that is?

As far as who starts and the playing time, I think they are directly involved through the HC. They make it known what they want. How many HC's, OC's and RBC's play an injured RB who is obviously not 100% over another? The Joneses tell the HC which stars they want to shine.

Have you ever heard any HC, on any level of the game, say he had nothing to do with the play calling after a game? Why would he do that? Was that his decision or was he ordered to stay out of it?

I think most owners influence their GM's in what kind of team they want because they want butts in seats but I think the Joneses take the extra step just like PT Barnum did with his ringmasters.

How many other GM's make the injury announcements and who's in/who's out? None, not even Crazy Al did that.

The level of involvement, overtly, by this owner is unmatched in sports history, do we think it stops there. "Socks to jocks" and a HC that makes him comfortable.

Philbin actually encourages his OL to hold.

This was well documented when he was assistant at Green Bay.

so do you think the coach hasnt taught them not to hold? Do you think the coaches have went over film with them all the time and discussed penalties and false starts? you guys are hilarious. Coaches, all of them are about the same. Some get lucky and get all pro types handed to them in the draft. You think Reggie White's D line coach was responsible for Reggie being Reggie? if so, lets go hire that guy out of the retirement home.

He's not as terrible as everyone makes him out to be. In fact, most position coaches are never as bad as the fanbase makes it seem. Talent + scheme are more important than anything a positional coach can or cannot do. I remember when everyone was trying to run Sanjay Lal out of town

There were about 5 different OL combinations all season long, including having to rely on inexperienced players like Biadasz, McGovern, and Steele. The Cowboys actually won games without Tyron for the first time compared to the past when they would fall apart without him at LT.

Yeah, not a fan. Would have loved to see him replaced. The Oline seemingly regressed with each passing game last season. I know some of our players were lackluster, but coaching still matters.

... ..supposedly, has 20 yrs of XP he brought with him. Dallas was most penalized team of 21'.

Adding fuel to fire, Dallas OL led league in holding penalties. Top ten in false starts.

I understand he's MM's buddy. I thought Jones we're serious about winning?

What say you?

Biggest fail of the offseason is bringing Philbin back.

What makes you think Daddy & Son were serious about winning? Their actions since the end of last season reflect the exact opposite.

The HC should be able to pick his coaching staff without interference. At the end of the day the HC is responsible for the performance of the players and his assistants.

The whole problem with this football team is that there's (perceived) meddling from the Jones in every area of the organisation.

I want to know why these players aren't running laps for these penalties! There have been games where Tyron Smith would have earned himself about 2 miles worth of laps after practice.

Public shaming for ever penalty.....stay on the field (with fans still in the stands) with AC working on the cause of the penalty..

Philbin was hired by McCarthy and may remain with him as long as MM is the Dallas HC. He'd join MM if both fail to find success in 2022.

Good question.

Jerry was so mad after the first round home playoff that he................. did absolutely nothing and brought back the same staff essentially, including the coach of the positional group that likely was one of the bigger problems of the 2021 season.

They all hold, on every play. All jut comes down to how egregious it is and they want to be throwing flags on that day.
