Varsity Blues comes to mind when I see stuff like this. No way he should have come back against the Bills, and DEFINITELY not played against the Bengals. I love football, but stuff like this pisses me off. Kid has the rest of his life ahead of him and they don’t give a rats *** about his health. I hope they fine the hell out of Miami for this and force him to sit for a bit.

I'm just going by what I heard on the radio. About lying while he's being checked out.

As far as the eye test goes, this really isn't a debate. He was obviously dizzy. That's why he was stumbling. Not for any other reason. Whether or not he had a concussion is up for debate.

You can be "dizzy" and still not be concussed - again, professionals checked him and said he wasn't. I want to also say, he could have NOT been concussed on Sunday and then got concussed on Thursday. The dude is taking massive hits out there. That's the thing, you don't 100% know - so you either trust experts or call them liars whenever they tell you they don't see any symptoms. That's basically what I'm reading from many (Not directing that at you)

People need to realize there are actual jobs on the line here. I completely understand why a coach would not hesitate to put his franchise QB back in the game when everyone around him that specialize in that field tell him a player is good to go.

I just don't see this as big of a controversy as the media is wanting to make it unless someone digs up that the neurologist did something malicious (why would he? It benefits neither him nor the league, but I guess malpractice is a thing)

The only thing in question is whether or not he had a concussion in the Buffalo game. There's no way anyone can see that. You have to be checked out. But the reason he was stumbling around was not a back issue. Anyone sober and over the age of 9 can tell you that. It was a head issue. But they don't always result in concussions.
Are you a doctor?

I agree with what you say completely. You pretty much nailed every point. No argument from me here.

It doesn't matter. There is no such thing as a concussion test. It doesn't exist. You can be a doctor, rocket scientist, world renowned phlebotomist, there's no sure way to know someone suffered a mild concussion. If the patient is totally honest, that helps a lot.

That said, I don't think the game against Buffalo has to have anything to do with the Thursday night game. But people are questioning it. If, and it's a big if, Tua suffered a concussion against Buffalo he shouldn't be playing 4 days later. No one really knows this.

Career over for that doctor. I’m sure it’s been done a thousand times, especially back in Aikman’s days and earlier, but he got caught. The passing out, and the finger flexing makes it brutal to watch. Bad PR for the NFL.

Yeah, that new coach really looking like a better leader than Flores. :muttley:

He was checked by both team medical staff and league neurologist. They all cleared him. There's absolutely nothing more to be discussed about this - you either trust the experts that were hired or you don't. "Eye test" is not always reliable - so we move onto, do we now completely remove a player from a game if you simply SUSPECT there was a concussion?

Well the NFL just fired the league neurologist who cleared Tua in the Bills game and said he "made mistakes". So yeah, it appears the doctor f'ed up and cleared Tua when he should not have. I am assuming the mistakes they are alluding to is he didnt properly follow the protocall.

And yes, the protocall is already being updated to include automatic removal from the game with no return if any gross motor instability is displayed, regardless of if the player actually has a concussion or not. If you get hit, get up and stumble, your day is over.

1. Of course they are going to say this and of course they'll use a scapegoat

2. The argument was that something nefarious happened

3. Tua was not ONLY checked Sunday, but also went through it the day after

4. As for it being updated - cool, but that's not what it was last Sunday. So Dolphins had no reason to sit him when he was cleared by staff and independent neurologist.

Last week

Tonight

Looks like another concussion to me. Felt like the NFL had made a lot of progress on preventing these but definitely brings it all back.

Thats one angle. The other angle is that the sack was too violent. The defender basically suplexed him onto his head, in WWE parlance. It should have been a penalty for unnecessary roughness. The doctor who made the decision to allow him to continue was fired. that's about all you can do.

Independent Dr’s said the previous week was not a concussion but a back issue. Their careers are on the line and IMO they wouldn’t have let him back on the field if he fails concussion protocol testing. Fans and talking heads who are saying, “yeah that was a concussion “ Don’t know what they’re talking about.
weird that doctor has been fired for several mistakes made but lets only believe what we're told
