How did Cooper Rush fall through the cracks?

The Cowboys have allowed 43 points during his current three-game winning streak.

I've seen Dak and Romo lose GAMES where the opponent scored more than 43, and fans blamed them for the loss.

Rush is doing his job and the defense has his back. Let's stop mentioning Kurt Warner and Tom Brady in relation to him.

Rush doesn't have the body of work of those guys to hang his hat on. But the point of comparisons like that is to show that great QBs do get overlooked and fall through the cracks sometimes. SO, it is possible that Cooper Rush will become a great QB if given an opportunity. He's off to a 4-0 career start.
If Bledsoe doesn't go down, we might have never heard of Tom Brady. If Romo doesn't go down, Dak never sees the field. In fact, Dak only got to play b/c Romo's back-up at the time was also injured. Dak was the 3rd string QB in TC. So, these things happen in the NFL. If Cooper beats the Rams, and Dak comes back, plays like he did against Tampa, and loses to the Eagles .......... we have a real QB controversy.

Cooper doesn't have the measurables to be a big time QB, but unlike most backups he's been in the same system for 5 years. He knows the system and the other players in it. He's playing opposite a good defense.

As a QB, he's got what it takes to learn the system and has been given ample time to do so.

Cooper is yet another demonstration by the Cowboys that good QBs can be had downroster if given a chance. Romo, Moore, Dak, Rush. All for 1 4th round pick.

One of my wishes was for McCarthy to really focus on developing QBs, and only consider paying one *after* the team makes it over the hump. Imagine Rush as QB with 40million more spent on the defense and offense.

Rush < Dak
But
Rush + 40mil > Dak
What you're saying is that the system is pretty decent (enough for a QB2 to perform at a winning level), we've now got the O-line that's fixed some of last years issues, and a Defense that is top 10.

With all of this expectations are high, there are no excuses (which certain fans tend to roll out).
The Stars are aligning, Dak needs to pick them when he's back...if so very happy days, if not, then he's on a short leash as we've got a lesser but effective enough QB2

To me Cooper is very good in the system he has learned for 5 years. Make no mistake that the defense is his rock.

Drive the bus Cooper, drive the bus.

Not sure why you (and others) are so up in arms about it...jeeze.

I think most people are talking the STORY of it....rather than point for point talent level.

It's almost like you are throttling your enjoyment level of it...and trying to convince others to do the same.

I keep reading the comparisons but the one comparison I think everyone is missing is roger staubach. Cooper Rush is the greatest qb to take the field as a Dallas cowboy since ol #12 hung em up!
Welll...of course that isn't true. But do try to cheer him on as best as you can manage.

Bingo! This is the same Rush that looked horrible in the first exhibition game this year. This is the same Rush that was playing for his football life in a roster spot battle with Grier. Now some of you claim he's this great QB. I'll continue to say he's a decent BACKUP QB that's helping this team win games. The real hero is our DEFENSE....not Rush.
Not many QBs can look good in preseason anymore, especially with the Boys who hold out their starters.

Playing with the starters Coop is 4-0, not really a surprise that he looks better with the 1s than backups who aren't even on the team now.

It's actually refreshing to hear our starting and winning QB giving credit to the defense for these wins. A rare display of humility just makes me admire him even more. The opposite is really true of our old coach Garrett, hated how he threw people under the bus and never took responsibility for a loss.

That's not it. If all Dak does is putting up 20 points more on the boards in games any backup QB could win, then we don't need him.

What we do need him for is winning us those games against contenders, in which our defense can't hold the opponent down to a low score. Or in which our offense has to overcome a very good defense themselves. So far he hasn't been able to do that for over a year.

For all I care we can beat teams like Washington or the Bears 10-7, as long as we also score at least a point more against Tampa, LAR or KC. And that's the standard I'd always hold my starter up to.
So....that standard leaves Dak out

Some fans will try and tell you they're responding to dedicated Dak Haters, but in reality, as you say, they are down playing the objective evidence that Rush is doing a fine job.
Thesre appears an insecure about Dak's ability....where as most of us are basking in the unexpected 3-1 and believe/hope Dak can take it to another level.
These very same fans tend to rehash Romo v Dak. Some fans just can't enjoy winning.

I shudder when I think that on offseason move was cutting Rush and then later re-signing him. Think maybe Pittsburgh could use his services right about now?
Yea, once Dak comes bak put Rush back on the practice squad lets see how that will work out

That post epitomises what's wrong with Cowboys fans.... BOTH Defence and Rush are hero's

I mean he's been in the league since 2017. He went undrafted. Has been cut several times. Cut this year and cleared waivers. Yet, here he is at almost 29 years old balling out with the Cowboys. To the point that people are suggesting he become the starter. I mean, this doesn't even happen unless you are Kurt Warner. I am by no means suggesting that he is good as Kurt but he's playing at a decently high level. How did this happen?

I love what he’s doing to help us win but playing at a high level? I mean he barely completed 50% of his passes on Sunday. Please define what high level is because I’m confused by all these posts proclaiming he should be the starter. If Dak puts up his numbers he gets run through the ringer and all of a sudden those same numbers are “playing at a high level”?

The thing you need to remember is Rush practices with outs the starters in preseason and probably runs the scout team during practices.

Usually the backup gets a certain percentage with the starters. There's usually a QB on the practice squad that's on the scout team....usually.

It's about expectation. I agree Dak would be put through the ringer, but you have to take into account the contract comparison and what improvements could be made with the additional CAP.
Stop demeaning Rush, he's performing above all expectations AND HELPINH US WIN. If you feel threatened by these Dak Haters just focus and wait when Dak gets to show what he can do.
Rush's comparison is against Dalton...take that and rejoice in the Cowboys performance rather than decrying our players (even when we win)

Hope you say the same thing when Dak wins. Cause I've been saying this for awhile. And if our defense wasn't lights out, it wouldn't surprise me if we'd be 0-4. Rush is doing well to drive the bus. Nothing spectacular and I appreciate that. He's a backup and he plays like one. But again....the defense is the real hero.
