How did Cooper Rush fall through the cracks?

Roger Staubach is an NFL god who won super bowls and is in the Hall of Fame.

Dak Prescott has done nothing in comparison That's why he can be compared with Cooper Rush.

Roger Staubach is at a whole different level with the most elite to have ever played this game.

Staubach is a level above the QBs a level above Cooper.

And you may need to loosen your grip on all your preconceived notions and start to believe what your eyes tell you Even though it doesn't fit your narrative.
Rush is good enough to win games in the NFL although he may not be as athletically gifted as many starting quarterbacks he processes information reads defenses and plays within his boundaries better than many quarterbacks.

Rush is a smart confident player who knows how to operate within his limitations and obviously possesses the leadership to get his team to play for him.

He is more than a backup on our team he has been our starting quarterback for the last three games and is saving our season.

He may have to continue as our starter as we have absolutely no idea how Dak is going to be able to throw the ball after he is cleared to play.

That is a really good comparison. He played well when asked and he didn't lose the games. His play allowed the other stars in the team to take over. That's pretty much what Rush is doing. I feel there are some on this board that are over doing things with Rush which isn't fair. Then there are fans that are minimizing what Rush is doing which also isn't fair. What Rush is doing is moving the offense, reading the defense and not turning it over. By doing those things he's putting the playmakers on the team, offense and defense, in the best chance to succeed. Exactly what a backup QB should do and he's doing it well.

He fell through the crack because he has never been very good. He doesn’t have the arm strength you want but he is able to understand the offense as good as the coaches and execute it fairly well if not asked to do to much. He can win games with a defense holding teams below 20 points week after week but let the defense give up 30+ and he will likely struggle to keep up.

....as you say, as a draftee his arm doesn't play as a NFL starter (a bit like Brady dropping). He isnt 'very good' he's limited, however, that is his selling point, there's no point in playing a sophisticated Offense....just play it simple. Sometimes you need to play with what you've got.

What these 3 games have shown is that if we dumb it down, play it simple and Dak can make the occasional long/mid range throws to keep the secondary honest and use his legs to take advantage of any deep cover2. we could well have a Very Good Offense.

It is supposition though, but if Dak is learning from the sideline (as he says he is) and gets confident to get the ball away then Coop will become a footnote to history as a trailblazer that helped show Dak the way.

As you say it's a good QB2....but it's given the blueprint of what we can and should do.

The question/conversation is whether Dak will elevate this gameplan (taking into account his contract), or whether we'll get a similar return when Dak get's back.

What I hope is that Dak see's this as a challenge and raises his game, because as a Cowboys fan, we have an option if he doesnt (or injury curtails his progress).

Listen, for all the fanfare concerning Cooper Rush. If he were a starting QB, he might not be any better than Baker Mayfield. He has done well so far and I am happy for him, but I realize that this cannot last.

Fan loyalty does not last. When Cooper Rush rides off into obscurity, I will not forget the time he helped carry the Cowboys while Dak was hurt. I celebrate his pocket awareness, humble attitude and his contributions.

I completely agree. We need to keep this gameplan regardless who the QB is. Right now we're playing good complimentary football. Changing the gameplan for Dak would disrupt the team's rhythm. Right now we got a good thing going. I hope we don't mess with a good thing. We need to gameplan to protect the QB's shortcomings and rely on our defense and hope the QB doesn't make mistakes to lose the game, regardless who the QB is.

He had a chance to grow and mature behind the scenes. This is the way alot of quarterbacks were brought up before Free Agency. Thats why you had great quarterbacks, starters and backups years ago.

Now what makes today's young quarterbacks great is the year round camps, clinics, and specialists. I bet you Rush would be a pretty good offensive coordinator when he stops playing because he learned from the sidelines and in practice.

Cooper doesn't have the measurables to be a big time QB, but unlike most backups he's been in the same system for 5 years. He knows the system and the other players in it. He's playing opposite a good defense.

As a QB, he's got what it takes to learn the system and has been given ample time to do so.

Cooper is yet another demonstration by the Cowboys that good QBs can be had downroster if given a chance. Romo, Moore, Dak, Rush. All for 1 4th round pick.

One of my wishes was for McCarthy to really focus on developing QBs, and only consider paying one *after* the team makes it over the hump. Imagine Rush as QB with 40million more spent on the defense and offense.

No one missed anything. One of the things tested for at the combine is velocity… his was a paltry 45 MPH. That limits him to only being able to make about half the passes necessary for a starter at this level. Hes held on because he a cerebral knowledge of the offense. So far they’ve been able to limit his throws to what he’s good at, in part because of the defense limiting other teams and we haven’t exactly played offensive juggernauts. Eventually there’s going to be enough tape on him, the opposing teams can game plan to take away the passes he’s capable of making!

I've seen Dak and Romo lose GAMES where the opponent scored more than 43, and fans blamed them for the loss.

Rush is doing his job and the defense has his back. Let's stop mentioning Kurt Warner and Tom Brady in relation to him.
