Skill positions are loaded for awhile. Skill positions should never be a problem though.

What about Hatcher, Ratliff, and Spencer?

I'm not saying there is a window I just don't see us dramatically improving anytime soon.

We have a dang good team this year and we need to start making some post season noise this year.

All teams have older guys. As long as you have good young players, you can replace those older guys in the draft. Two years ago, we had way too many holes to fill.

Escobar is expected to replace Witten in two years. Williams will replace Austin. Next year, they'll need to draft someone to replace Ware. Crawford and Wilber are hear to replace Spencer one day.

Next draft needs to be about defensive line again. And offensive line.

I'm not saying there is a window. We could be good for awhile.

I just think if we can't make some noise this year then I doubt there is much hope down the road.

Especially since we have ignored a major youth movement on the O-line and D-line.

Agreed. This team is primed this year. As you said, Romo is in his prime, Dez Bryant is hitting his stride, Murray should be hitting his stride if he can stay healthy. And guys like Witten and Ware should still be dominant, but not for much longer. Lee and Carter are healthy and should have monster years and Claiborne should be markedly better in his second year. No reason we shouldn't have SB aspirations because if not now, when? Until a couple of guys get a couple more years under their belts? Nope, because guys like Romo, Witten and Ware will be a couple of years older. Nope, this is the year.

This is a veteran team, we have good Assistant coaches, and we have a QB in his prime.

We also have all kinds of offensive weapons and with the signing of Brandon Moore our OL should be solid at the very least.

I actually have the Packers in the Superbowl as my Pre-season pick but when I look at the Cowboys roster and the Packers roster I can't say they are a lot better than the Cowboys.

If we can't make some post season noise this season then it's probably just not meant to be with Romo and Garrett.

I can't see Dallas dramatically getting better anytime soon unless they stumble upon a phenom in the draft somehow.

Yeah we don't win this year forget it. Let's pack our bags and give up

I have no doubts that this team has talent. What bothers me is that other than late in 2009, i really haven't seen this team play a style of football that leads to winning. I am a believer of you are what your record says you are, and we have been 8-8 for two straight seasons. That isn't a fluke. Until the team comes out and plays a crisp, consistent style of football that leads to points earned, takeaways, and preventing the other team from scoring, then we will continue to be a flash, a team of woulda-coulda-shoulda.

I'm not saying this as a negativity; take a look at the 49ers; they've gone from being a very meh team to a powerhouse without MAJOR upgrades in talent at the skill positions. The Giants won two superbowls playing as a team. We have all the talent we need, but our strategy needs to meet up with reality, and tactics need to be sound. Hopefully this is the year they click under Garrett and start doing the right things to get wins.

That is why I think if we don't do much this year then I doubt we'll do a whole lot next year unless we discover a game changer somewhere.

This is the best team we've had in years. If we can't produce this season then I just don't see us dramatically improving.

In fact we could take a huge hit on the D - Line after this year and actually be worse.

Also this isn't a complex defense so I don't buy into the year 2 thing.

Brandon Moore or not I still expect this team to go out and win. I expect the OL to be improved from last season and I do think with a year under his belt in Tyron Smith the addition of Frederick and some improved play by guys like Free and Arkin that we can be an improved offense.I think just from a health stand point this defense will be much improved not to mention the addition of Kiffin and his defensive scheme which I think will pay off big for Dallas

This is sad. I've never heard of quitting two seasons ahead of time.

Totally disagree. Two years ago, this was an aging, veteran team on the downhill slope, but now, it's a VERY young team that should be good for years.

Romo should be able to play a while if we put an o-line out there for him. He's not old by QB standards at all.

Murray, Dez, Williams, Randle, Smith, Free, Frederick, Leary, Hanna, Escobar, Claiborne, Carr, Church, Lee, Carter, etc,........there is a ton of young, good talent here now.

Yes. That's correct. Well said.

Lots to way to win the NFL... the Packers won the Superbowl in 2010 with one of the youngest rosters in the NFL. The Ravens won the Superbowl this past year with one of the oldest rosters in the NFL.

I just feel like we've been "processing" for quite some time now and I don't see this roster getting drastically better anytime soon and the only team that just blows us and everyone else away with talent is the 49ers.

Washington needs RG3 to be great coming off of an ACL

New York is good but they get very disinterested halfway through

Philly has all kinds of questions.

Dallas could finish 1st just as easily as we could finish last because we have mental breakdowns and confidence issues.

I just think if we don't make some noise in the post season this year then I doubt we'll ever see it in the Romo / Garrett era. It will take some changes to get over the hump.

There is no excuse barring injury to not have a good year this year.

Despite our O-line woes, I don't worry about the offense.

I worry big time about our overrated defense. Ware and lee cannot do it alone. And With Ratliff "injured" (what a china doll) and Hatcher doing his usual journeyman thing, this defense has more holes than my uncle's work boots. And the D might folder earlier than a Spike Lee movie.

We'll see.

I think the defense will be pretty good if they can stay healthy.

I like our Corners. Not a big Scandrick fan but having Moore and a young prospect in Webb gives us insurance there.

I think our LB's are elite.

I also feel pretty good about the scheme and coaching.

The only thing that worries me about the scheme is when the DB's start playing off and giving up too many yards.

Defense is just to hard to play in this NFL but I think we'll manage to be a top 10 unit.

This team will be perpetually mediocre until the trenches are upgraded drastically by drafting and we get lots more players like Smith. Ill still root for them and follow them .. but i expect nothing but 8-8 until the drafting is better. Fredrick looks good ... but you cant only hit on your first rounder and expect to get better quickly.

Niners win by being tough to throw against, and then they brought in a coach who improved their QB play. They didn't change much on that roster on either side of the ball before bringing in the new HC. That, and they were +9 in TO differential when we were -13 last season.

It's a pretty simple formula for winning in the NFL. Throw effectively, be tough to throw effectively against, hold onto the ball and take it away whenever you can. If we can improve the TO differential, this team can contend with any in the NFC with the talent currently on the roster, no doubt in my mind.

I disagree that our window is closing. We've actually gotten younger at entire position groups over the last few years.

CB and safety has mostly all young guys. LB is young and stacked. DE and DT has some young backup players but the starters are older. If guys like Selvie, Wilber, Crawford step up then we can be good; otherwise, we address it in the draft. WR is stacked with young talent, even after Austin leaves. TE is loaded even after Witten. RB is all young. LT, LG and C are young. We have Parnell at RT who may or may never pan out.

Anyway, so the only positions we aren't loaded at with youth are DL and RG/RT. We also have some young guys on the DL who may step up. I think we're better off than most teams when it comes to youth.

The main problem and reason why the window may be closing is because of the age of Tony Romo. As much as people hate him, he's the reason why we've even been competitive this past decade. You can't win without a good QB. It doesn't matter how good Jacksonville gets as long as Gabbert is still under center. The point is, every team with a good QB (especially teams like NE, NO, DEN) are scared to death of the prospect of having no Brady, Brees, Peyton in a few years.

I beg to differ. I see us eventually winning. I see more positives than negatives with whats going on with this team. Call me a happy fan. But thats better than being a negative nancy.

Hard to take you serious when you list Free in your young and good talent list.
