Marcus Allen? Truly a special RB who would have had great numbers had Al Davis not inexplicably created a trivial feud with him and made sure that he became a fullback and limited his carries....

Namath is in the HOF due to his guaranteed win in one of the most important/famous games in NFL history. That huge upset win over the Colts in SB 3 made Namath one of the most iconic figures in not only NFL history but sports history. That win along with his playboy lifestyle and Broadway Joe nickname made him very famous. It led to commercial endorsements and movie roles with famous Hollywood stars. Everyone wanted to be around him from Frank Sinatra to Sammy Davis Jr. That one game made Namath's career and made him a household name. His career was just documented a few weeks ago on It's a Football Life and it was a 2 part show which is a first for that series.

When you look at his regular season numbers he doesn't belong but when you look at the impact he had on the game due to his guaranteed win in SB III he does belong. No SB has been analyzed and talked about more than SB III. It was the greatest SB upset ever and Namath guaranteed the win. Can you name an NFL player who was "more" famous than Joe Namath? It's been 46 years since that game and every time Namath is interviewed that SB is always brought up. He loves talking about it because that one game made him a legendary figure.

Yes he was.
If it was just for his NBA career, for sure he does not belong. But he was totally dominant in college.
This applies to Bill Walton too.

The HOF isn't all about regular season stats or Namath, Aikman, Griese and several other QB's wouldn't have been enshrined. If it was all about stats Vinny and Bledsoe would be in the HOF both are in the top 10 all time yardage leaders ahead of several HOF QB's. Do you think they both should to be in the HOF due to being in the top 10 in passing yards? Aikman QB'd one of the great dynasties winning 3 SB's in 4 years and he also won a SB MVP. Montana and Brady aren't being compared due to their regular season stats.
Obviously the author who put together that list doesn't put any stock in championships.

Imo, I have always felt that Walton shouldn't be a HOF, but we all know he is in there because of his college career. If Basketball HOF can have people like Walton and Sampson in the HOF, they might as well put Laettner, LJ, Fab Five, etc. in the HOF too because they had great college careers too.
Also, the NBA chose Walton as one of the 50 best players in the NBA when they should of gave that to Bob McAdoo. Walton had skills in the NBA when he was healthy. Problem was that he was injured more than he played most of his career.

Another point on Aikman is not only did he lead the Cowboys to 3 SB wins including back to back wins but he was the winningest QB of the 90's and out dueled 3 future HOF QB's Favre, Young and Kelly during the playoffs and SB to win those championships.

Arguing about the Hall of Fame is pointless, there is no guidelines for qualification. They can (and do) put anyone they want in there. About the only thing you can say is "Player X wouldn't be in MY Hall of Fame". Once you get it out of your mind that the Hall of Fame is not necessarily about the absolute best players on the field, it's easier to digest it all.
Regarding Namath, don't forget he won not one but two AFL MVPs, which regardless of how you feel about that league should come close to being a clincher in a PRO football hall of fame.
