Has it been reported that Romo will continue receiving the shots in 2015?

i believe he said last yr that it was just something going forward that was going to have to be part of his week.

So if the Cowboys make it deep into the playoffs in 2017 with Romo playing all 16 games while having another 30-10 season they're just going to let him go because of money? The one position teams aren't afraid to pay?

The only way Romo goes off the books is if he retires which may well happen in a couple of years but no way is he going to be cut.

I think they are going to have to drag him off the field...

So a guy who has to have a cortisone shot in his back every week just to be able to suit up to play isnt a big deal for you? Manning was contimplating retiring after going thru this type of thing this yr. And this coming yr will be his last. This isnt madden, the human body can only take so much.

It is very unlikely the shots he is receiving contain cortisone (corticosteroids).

I think it is more likely that he might be receiving some from of a local anesthetic to a very sensitized structure in his back that while reasonably "healthy" is prone to sending pain information to the brain from motions that aren't actually causing harm or injury to his back. This is unfortunately often the result of injury to some parts of the body that result in innervation of structures by pain receptors that are not normally present.

Having said that, it is certainly quite possible that Romo's career has a much higher probability of ending sooner than expected due to further back injury. Once one segment gets significantly injured not only is it more prone to injury but so to are adjacent levels as they are all quite interdependent upon each other.

In terms of the plan to replace him, the problem is each draft typically only has about one person who will become a top-10 QB. Most such players are drafted in the top 10 of the draft. Right now we are unlikely to get a pick high to enough to select this player based upon the quality of the team and it is also unlikely that we could easily trade up to get this player without forfeiting most of this draft as well as a significant chunk of the next 1-2 drafts. But that would wreak havoc with our ability to maximize our chances to win a title with Romo still playing.

If we want to do I still think the best way to do it is to trade for a future 1st rounder. Maybe we could trade our 2016 1st rounder for a 2016 2nd rounder and a 2017 1st rounder. This gives us two 2017 1st rounders. We see if there is a QB we like and if we have the ammunition to get a franchise QB. If we don't like the QBs then we do the same kind of a deal again so we have 2 first rounders again the next season and see if we have the ammunition to get a franchise QB again. Ideally at some point we end up with a top 10 pick in a season with a QB that we really like and can trade up to snatch him.

Jason Witten: Romo and I can play 4-5 more seasons

The future has been on the minds of many who wear a Dallas Cowboys jersey.

With Tony Romo turning 35 last month, he's coming down the stretch on the back nine of his career and the Super Bowl aspirations are becoming urgent. That was the reason Romo implored Jerry Jones to bring back DeMarco Murray before free agency.

There is no question that the ground-and-pound style the Cowboysemployed with Murray last year helped Romo to his best season in years.

Speaking on Sunday, 33-year-old tight end Jason Witten was asked whether he and Romo have another four or five seasons together in Dallas:

"If we do it like last year we can," Witten responded, per the Dallas Morning News' Jon Machota.

Witten is in denial. There is NO way he has 5 years left in those legs. Romo, maybe, if all the start align right. Witten, no way.

There's a huge, huge, monumentally huge difference between a cortisone shot (which is merely a steroid to reduce inflammation), and opiate pain killers.

Sure is - in fact I was told you can only get cortisone shots once every six months - I know he gets a shot but I don't think it's cortisone.

Why not? Only Witten knows how he feels and he's still one of the best at getting open. His production was down last year because of the focus on the run game and him being used as a blocker.

He may not see the field as often as time goes by but it's not out of the question that he's still playing five years down the road.

Yeah, no thanks. Just walk away, don't become those guys that are too old, and end up just hurting the team.

Neither is built on speed and freakish athleticism, so why not?

Witten takes tremendous care of himself, which is crucial.

In 2018 Dallas could save 16mil against the cap by releasing Romo. I can guanrantee he wont be a Dallas Cowboy that season.

Wow bold statement. Frankly, I don't care much for people who do bold predictions in a forum. If Romo plays up to par as a elite player like he did last year, I can also guarantee he ain't going anywhere.

Written lasting four to five years is more at risk.

His position places him in a position to seek or experience contact.

At least Romo can handoff or pass the ball.

Given the type of oline the Cowboys have amassed I expect more running which is moreRomo friendly than Witten friendly.

2 more yrs of romo is good enough. Draft his replacement this coming yr and keep it moving. Guy is getting shots in his back every week to be able to play. Thats going to take its toll. Thats why.

I agree

I hardly think they could last that long an be effective

Because they already knew," Irvin told 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia last week
