I can’t imagine being a Diehard sports fan and not having Satellite TV. Why get cheap with your favorite passion?

I have two 2 recievers with 5 genie remotes for 5 TV’s just in my Sports Cave alone for my entertainment. So what if it’s $150 a month. Some fans will blow that on food, beer and cigs at a bar for the weekend. Priorities people !! Lol

We've opened in prime time almost every one of those nine years -- 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017.

That leaves 2014, 2016 and this year. Those games were at home against the Giants, at home against the 49ers and on the road against the Panthers.

Given that out of those three games, the excitement would naturally be the lowest for a road game against the Panthers, and given the decrease in network TV viewership over the past couple of years, it's not surprising that the ratings were lower than in 2016 and 2014. But they still compare favorably to everything else.

And we lost all 3 of those games. So add on CONSPIRACY! to DOOM!

How did the ratings compare with the TNF game, early game and Sunday night? Was it just the Cowboys game or all NFL games?

If this is fact, consider that two of the stars are gone and Dallas is a stars market. Witten was probably the most liked Cowboy and Dez the most mercurial, must watch TV.

If the rest of the country is down, why wouldn't Dallas be down as well? And the Fox affiliate still had the number 1 show of the time period and probably the week.

Be interesting to see this Sunday night's game numbers and if that's a trend. Didn't help only scoring 8 when most fans want some TD's but if they play well, have no reason not to expect a ratings rebound. Just a theory I have, based on some passive research, but the Cowboys have more fans of just the Cowboys than the NFL of all the teams.

have to be a really strong fan to watch the garbage the cowboys put on the field last sunday lots of fans just turn it off

Ya I’m definitely becoming a big soccer fan, it’s helped ease my annual heartbreak from the cowboys.

There's no real reason to fan boy on behalf of the NFL but there's apparently a reason to need to do the opposite on your part. You literally will poke your head into any thread that speaks about ratings to try to promote your DOOM! theory and try to undercut anything that doesn't support your case. There's no real reason to do that other than some need like I mentioned. And when someone has an agenda they need to push they will twist anything they can find for "support" like is commonplace nowadays. Those "bogus" numbers I pulled would have been gospel had all slots been down. I knew when I didn't see a thread in the NFL Zone about falling ratings for the complete week that it must have meant that some slots were up and I was right. But yes, go on pretending you're just making observations while you show up in every single thread about ratings with your stance. No agenda there at all. Oh, heaven's no, lol.
and keep pretending I give a dam about your observations

I have to repeat myself because you fan boys can't handle the truth

the facts are the ratings are down for the 3rd straight year

Ratings are down cause so many Cowboy fans are wagon or casual fans. If we’re not winning they aren’t interested.

Yet millions of these hardcore fans are watching games on their phones and tablets.... the hardcore streamers might even hook it up to the TV

Put a camera on JG throughout the game. His clapping and throwing up Italian sub has potential to gain more viewers.

And I have met many that are just the opposite of that.

Many of the fans have been about star power and they've had many but the stars are in short supply with this team. And the one that could come close to Tony and Emmitt in star power is tarnished and he hasn't helped that by how he presents himself. Last year ruined Zeke's marketability to Booger and all he's got now is Dak and he's getting a lot of criticism and whether that's warranted or not doesn't matter, marketability is all about perception.

Don't you wonder how many fans actually like this team any longer, especially after Witten, the ultimate white hat Cowboy hung it up? They need to either get stars or become a winner or this will slide just as it did in the 80's.

Streamers risk losing coverage and buffering connection.

Let me ask you how you’d stream 5 games at once?

Are streamers only watching one game at a time? Lol

I don't know what the ratings are doing, but how many single digit games are people going to sit down to watch? If people think the offense is going to score under 10 you can bet a lot of people will tune out. If any trend is hurting ratings I think that's it. Win lose or draw, 8 points just isn't a lot of fun. You are netting less than 3 points per hour watching.

No doubt winning makes it more fun but being a diehard isn’t about winning.

If your only interested in your team when they’re winning or have stars then I’d classify as a wagon or casual fan. Which is fine. Many are. As long as you recognize as such.

It’s a different mindset and mentality to brutally follow your team.

I attended 12 games in 1989 never witnessing in person winning a game. That takes dedication. Not everyone is up to that type of devotion. The same devotion you’d follow your loved one playing.

Yeah, but the majority of people just aren't that diehard. There are a lot of more casual fans who don't even know these forums exist, and they pay most of the bills because they are legion. So when the offense sucks, in an offensive driven league, you're going to lose their attention. That game the other day pretty much sucked. Two bad offenses and two decent to good defenses. Most people in 2018 aren't tuning in to watch a game with a 1974 stat line.

I totally get it . And I’m more than happy to lose the casual fans. All they do is drive up the price for us diehards.

I have no data to back it up, so just a theory of mine...but I think you have to look at the common denominator of night games doing poorly. The nfl (and all sports really) have to acknowledge that people on the east coast have a really hard time watching these games. I don’t bother watching a lot of night games unless it’s the Cowboys just because I know I’ll be able to stay up til 1/2 time at best.
Correct. I hate the Eastern timezone.

The ratings thing is garbage. The millennials are watching the games on free streaming sites since most don't have cable. https://www.reddit.com/r/nflstreams/ has all the games that you can stream free. Cable is dying so using it as a metric every year just seems stupid.
Reddit doesn't count towards Nielsen so it's still the same common denominator. People are tuning out. Thank Jerry. Couldn't be happening to a better person. Sucks the fans have to suffer.
