Supposedly Byron Jones and Jourdan Lewis have been made available for trades

Lewis is the one I would keep easily. His ballhawking and coverage skills are better. He just doesn't have the height that Byron does.

Lewis gets more picks, but Byron is sticky. He consistently shut down his man last year, game in and game out.

You have to love the good old days I'm old school football. The most money wins LOL
it really does. Im old school too. I recall when we traded for Deion Sanders..Jerry just outbid for him. lol..We ALL knew what JJ wanted, he gets back then. NO CAP. No wonder we won all the time. We signed all the best of the best at every position. Kept our own guys. I think that's why JJ AND Stevie are so staunch about keeping our own guys in house. Problem with that theory is,if you don't win, then what? lol...You have all those contracts expiring all at once with limited funds to pay out the big paydays they will want. Mmath tells us we will lose 2 big name players this year. Cannot be helped. In that case, lets trade two guys and get a few picks.

we cannot have it all guys.Only way we keep Byron is if we let him play out his last year this year. He's in the final year of his rookie deal. We either trade him now and get something in return, or let him walk next offseason. Lewis has 2 years left on his rookie deal. He is the guy they will keep is my guess, then we draft a guy this year.

J.Lew has been underused. I think he can be just as sticky in coverage as Byron...but the height and length thing... He will blossom if he starts fulltime.

This is not good. They both are going to feel disrespected now. If they are not traded now then we are going to have secondary of disrespected players with hurt feelings. That is not good for their egos or self confidence
It’s going to be even worse for their second contracts if that’s the attitude they have...they’re grown men playing in the NFL - if they can’t perform and handle their business with the added “disrespect” of a trade rumor, they should find a new profession.

So this team is willing to overpay for a QB but wants to trade one of the leagues better CBs...and Richard cannot figure out the proper way to use Lewis. We need a whole new coaching staff. Jones needs to quit listening to these coaches. He listened to the dolt RM and we get a poor attitude, lazy Taco instead of a Watt.

I don't want somebody else's high-priced free agent that they let go because they couldn't afford them. The only option is sign your own players or keep building through the draft. And the only way to do that is to deal with the player a year before his contract comes up.

Think about what you just said. A whole new coaching staff. Do you really think another person's philosophy is going to be anything different

I say get all the draft capital possible. I like these guys but none are world beaters.
well said...and this draft is deep at corner...and in general on defense. We can land us a heavy contributor day 2.

Cornerbacks play their entire careers on Islands. There's not much of a learning curve for them. I believe we proved that when we cleaned house and started the youngest defensive team in the league. If we had a solid defensive middle

What's there to think about, after a decade and very few playoffs win, what would lead anyone to believe these coaches are capable. These coaches have the talent to work with on the field, these players have coaches who cannot game plan, manage the game clock, coach them up, call a proper consistent game...the gig is up...most of the league knows JG is a fraud, so are the rest of our coaches.

You don’t know if he’s going to get “elite money”. I think Jones will ask for a good contract - however, if he has another season like he did in 2018, there is a good chance he starts to get discussed as one of the best corners in the league and “elite money” would be reasonable to ask for.

However, I believe Jones will fall somewhere in the middle and be very good but not exactly elite. I don’t want to give away a very good corner - they are valuable, we need it. I’m not looking to create another hole in the secondary because we sure as heck aren’t upgrading the safety position significantly any time soon.
I dont know if he'll get it, but I'm sure he will demand elite money.

When you say a whole new coaching staff. That could be 20 people. All the assistance good quarterback coach offensive line coach defensive backfield coach. No I don't think we need to change them all. Maybe I was just looking deeper than you

You only trade Byron now if you can get a first. Otherwise you might as well wait a year.

I remember we lost a game to the Giants. They were in the red zone. To receivers on the right crossed. Our defensive backs did not know how to hand the player off. The Giants did the same Play 2 Patriots the following week. They lost . because there backfield handled the situation properly. Then Kris Richard came to the Cowboys. And he taught our guys how to handle the cross in the red zone. No I think he's brilliant. I don't think he's head coaching material yet. But definitely could be defensive coordinator

More sticky. JLew has better mirroring skills than Byron.
