They say history repeats itself, and we could be looking at a rerun in Dallas.

The Cowboys of the nineties were lead by three future Hall of Famers Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin on offense. An accurate passer, elite level runner and a clutch receiver. Now the modern-day version is lead by three top-shelf players in their own right. Dak Prescott has won more games than any quarterback since 2016 not named Tom Brady. Ezekiel Elliott has two rushing crowns in his first three years. And Amari Cooper is a multiple time pro bowler and one of the best receivers in the game. The similarities, however, don't end there.

It’s surely trending that way.

Just a few years ago our big three was Romo, Murray and Dez. We need a solid defense to go along with our current big three. We wasted the Romo years by not having a defense.

Throw in the #1 ranked defense, the best o-line, a TE and a Moose then we have the 90's Cowboys all over!

Dak isn't on the same level as Aikman. Not even close.

Zeke isn't on the same level as Emmitt. Not even close.

Amari? Amari is good, but I don't see him having the same passion Irvin had. I'm finding it hard to identify anyone who did, but T.O. was close.

The biggest problem with this organization (and many of its fans) is that they keep looking back to the 1990s for their model, instead of understanding how football actually works in the 21st century. Looking for another set of triplets is just another symptom of that backwards mindset.

These guys aren't the new triplets, and they don't necessarily even need to be. But trying to take sub-Hall of Famers, and use them like Hall of Famers were used 25 years ago and expecting the same results would be asinine.

I like a stud QB and a fast WR, after that give me a stud O Line and I'll give you super bowls. On defense, give a stud D Line fast/smart backers and some good CB's. triplets are unaffordable.

Yes, the Triplets, no matter how good they are, are just three out of 22 starters. A dominatnt offensive line and strong lead blocker gave Emmitt the room to run that he needed and Aikman the protection he needed. A great outlet tight end (and fullback) and solid No. 2 receiver kept teams from just focusing on taking Irvin away. And then there was the No. 1 defense in the league making it easier on that offense to stay ahead once it got there.

Total package, which was needed back then. Now, you can win with about three-fourths of that package. We've had maybe half at a time.

All that helps, but another important ingredient that's missing is a good HC. Jimmy was phenomenal - Garrett is a poop stain.

That's true on coaching. I should have mentioned that. The Jimmy Johnson/Norv Turner combination was the right fit for that team. Johnson was a great defensive mind and motivator and Turner's scheme really complimented our strengths on offense.

I do believe that we can win with Garrett as the head coach, though, but only if the defense is elite. I don't think he can scheme the offense to carry the team, so the only way it can be good enough to beat elite offenses is if he truly relinquishes control to Moore (and Moore proves to be a mastermind) or we're so powerful on defense that we can hold top offenses under 20 points (like we did against New Orleans in a brief flash of that kind of dominance).

There are a couple of things that could be a problem these days. One is a salary cap. The Cowboys were able to keep the original triplets together for several years before a cap was in place. Now teams have to juggle how to pay everyone. The other is, unfortunately, that Zeke is proving to be a bit of a wild card in that his off the field behavior could affect his on th field availability. Of course, back in the day Irvin was a bit of a wild card to, but the NFL did not scrutinize and suspend players then like they do now, plus Irvin was known to be the most dedicated player on the team in practicing and preparing and coordinating with Troy and the offense, so he did not let off the field stuff affect what he did on the field.

I don't think Zeke will be given a lengthy contract due to his poor off the field decisions, they don't know from one season to the next if he's going to do something to get suspended..........let him play out his current contract and if he plays lights out franchise him next year and see what value he has in a trade.

Don't agree with the Zeke part. I'm not sure he'll have the longevity of Emmitt, but his productivity and all around game is right there. Unless his career is cut short for some reason, he's a hall of famer.
