hello did anyone record or watch the replay of the 1995 nfc championship game against the packers this morning at 2am. great game to watch again. you could tell the cowboys were at the end of there run but with better drafting could have prolonged that but we all know what happened after that. you could also tell that the packers were ready to take off. the cowboys had to play there butts off to win that game.

This game was the Super Bowl. If the Packers somehow win that game they beat the Steelers as well. Neil O’Donnell was awful.

Side note: if the new replay rule for pass interference was in effect the year before in 1994, that obvious pass interference penalty by Deion Sanders gets called (and the dumb unsportsmanlike penalty in Switzer does not), the Cowboys come back and win that game then destroy the Chargers. They should have won four straight Super Bowls.

The only team I worried about was the 49ers. They beat us easily at home that season, and I think with a backup QB. I had no confidence that the Cowboys would beat them in the playoffs. The second the Packers got lucky and beat them in the Div. round I knew the Cowboys were going to the SB. That Cowboys team beat that Packers team in every game they played. 8 Times in a row in fact.

Yes. It was the biggest and worst upset in the NFL that year. The 5-4 Niners limped into Dallas with Elvis Grbac as their QB, facing the heavily favored 8-1 Cowboys...... and absolutely blasted Dallas without mercy in front of a stunned national audience. The score was 24-0 in favor of San Francisco at one point. Possibly the most embarassing Cowboys loss of that otherwise golden decade.

Wasn't there some terrible call that cost the game for SF? I may be thinking of another game

Probably another game. In this divisional playoff game (1995 Green Bay at San Francisco), the Pack more or less dominated the Niners from start to finish.

Salary cap had just hit and dismantled the two teams that it was meant to dismantle.

I think you may be thinking of '96 and/or 97. There were 2 games that GB and SF played that were highly debated in the playoffs. One was on a muddy field(96) and there was a question of a fumble or there was a fumble at the goal line that didn't go SF way. Then in another playoff game either the next year or year after Jerry Rice clearly fumbled and the refs blew the call. This play was rumored to be one of the plays that lead to instant replay coming back. I'm doing this off the top of my head and I'm not googling it so my memory may be a little muddy. But you're right tho, there was 2 games that were controversial as far as blown calls for the SF and GB.

1995 season proved its the Players that win the GAMES as we had no to little coaching.....
bahahahahahahahhahahhahahahahahaahhahahahaahha

so let me get this straight. Today, our coaches are so bad and that is why we just cant win the big one.

But back then, it was the players that overcome bad coaching?

Say what you want about Clown Switzer, the guy could coach. His problem was that he was not Jimmy Johnson.

BY the way, all the guys coaching in the NFL are god. Players have always been the ones that win,...... in every sport.

Switzer was fine and exactly what the team needed at that point as they were pretty much burnt out from Jimmy. FA was starting to take its toll...

Anyone that might be interested might check out Barry Switzers book.. "Bootleggers Boy."

From the book...

August 26, 1959 was a fateful day for Barry Switzer, one that had to have scarred him forever. He was at the family house near Crossett; his father was somewhere else. He describes what happened the evening of that day:

That night I went to bed in the front bedroom…I hadn’t turned out the light yet. Mother came in and sat on the bed. I didn’t totally understand the hell she was living through. I was too young to know how really desperate her everyday life was….She loved me and she needed my love so much, but as I looked at her sitting there on the bed kind of glassy and smiling, loaded on prescription drugs and booze, something broke inside me and I said to her something I will always regret.
I said, “Mother, I would rather never ever see you again and know you are safe and well taken care of, than to see you like this all the time.”

She leaned over to kiss me.

I turned my head away. (p. 45)

His mother then got a pistol out of the closet and walked out of the room to the back porch. Barry just watched her leave; then he heard a shot. She had killed herself.

Yeah, that Rice fumble was awful, that would have taken about 10 seconds in instant replay to rule

WOW!!!! That is some deep ****. I alwasy liked Switzer. He came into an impossible situation. The 94 season we would have won another SB if it wasnt for 3 turnovers in the first quarter against the 49ers. The following year we did win the SB, and switzer was quite possible the most scrutinized coach in the history of the NFL. He dealt with the media, the owner, and coaching the Dallas Cowboys who were attheir peak intheir history as far as EVERYTHING. The league was being watched and scrutinized more than at any time in the 70s, just due to the changing landscape of sports. SWitzer didnt luck out into coaching an absolute college powerhouse at Oklahoma.

You cant have it both ways. You cant say today that you need good coached to win a SB, but than discredit what Switzer did. Its one or the other.

Yeah that was a interesting game. The 1995 team was super talented as we started off the season very strong, maybe 8-1, 10-2.. I remember the big loss to SF with Grbac. The Niners were in our heads big time after they swept us in 1994.
The team was lucky to face GB as we owned Favre, I still remember Madden talking about the crown at Texas Stadium and how Favre tends to be really hyped at the beginning of games and throw the ball high.
Zampese was the O-coordinator. Offense was very vanilla, beat the man in front of you. Kevin Smith went down the first game of the season, Jerry signed Deion. The pizza & the crust. Donadlson stepped in at center when Steph went down. All the nitty gritty details are coming back.
Emmit had a huge year, broke the rushing TD record that Riggins held. Kevin Williams showed up which under the radar saved our season.
Even the SB was a bit boring to be honest. We were the better team no doubt, but we let them hang around and it took some boneheaded QB play for us to win. We couldn't do anything the second half of the game. Even the players were more relieved than happy after that win. Switzer acted like an idiot after the win. Can't believe that idiot was a our coach from 94-97. Such a sad ending to a historically great team. Those Cowboys teams of the 90's really were the blueprint on how to build a winner. It takes talent, coaching and culture to have a successful program. We lost all three and things fell apart.

Jerry's biggest flaw post 93 was not being able to find a 2nd WR to complement Irving. Talent on the team faded really quickly. The deep drafting of Jimmy was the reason for our success and it showed really clearly.

Thw Cowboys were the Blueprint? What about the Cowboys and Steelers of the 70s? or the niners of the 80s? They werent a blueprint?

The Cowboys talent went away quickly due to the single biggest change ever made to pro football...... the salary cap. Teams like the niners and cowboys suffered the most. Why? because they were so talented and were at the peak of thegame, so they had the hardest and quickest to fall.

There is a reason that a WC team now has a legit shot at winning a SB... just as much as a 1 seed.... and it isnt because the coaching is now so dep that they bring their teams up. Salary Cap people, it works wonderfully.

Even the players were more relieved than happy after that win.

Aikman said that he was never happier for a season to be over. Mickey Spagnola wrote that after the game was over, some Cowboys coaches or assistants were just lying down in the locker room (or some room,) absolutely collapsed from relief, exhaustion rather than from happiness.

Jerry's biggest flaw post 93 was not being able to find a 2nd WR to complement Irvin.

The Cowboys had Jimmy Smith on their roster - who later on went to become the greatest WR in Jaguars history after he left Dallas - but failed to recognize him as the gem he was.
