You're going to be eating Taco for a while. This is his 3rd season and he has been nursing a bad shoulder and ankle (off season surgeries). He will be ready for the season. The Cowboys are not going to cut him until he really proves he is a bust and not a player that will haunt them if they cut him to early.

Lail Collins has been beating DL in one on one drills since Pop Warner. But, if you are a speed rusher, he will lose concentration in technique at RT. If you have a bad shoulder and ankle, you are never going to look good going against a former All SEC OL.

Probably not going to cut him since I believe his contract this year is guaranteed

I'm surprised it took 7 posts for that canard. The next snap he takes as a 4-3 DE will be his first, in college or the pros, but hey he's JJ's brother so he'd be awesome at it. :muttley:

Should've not taken Taco, regardless.
For the time it took you to type such garbage, you could have looked at video of TJ and noticed how the Steelers D runs a 4 man base half of the time with TJ playing DE with a hand in the dirt half those times and playing upright the rest. He still creates havoc and makes plays playing DE on those 4 man base D formations while the rest comes off of their historied 5-3 front.

Half of the time, the Steelers D runs a 4 man front, and half of that time, TJ Watt plays with a hand in the dirt... bro. I honestly feel TJ Watt would have fit in just fine at DE in our 4-3 D, even if a majority of the time he plays standing up. The guy is simply a playmaker.

Of course he would. The attempted excuse sucks and doesn't hold water. But some fans have to tell themselves that so they can sleep at night, knowing their beloved Cowboys totally botched a first round pick.

The hypocrisy is that the Cowboys have switched players between defensive end and outside linebacker over and over again to suit their scheme at the time.

But again, some people struggle to admit the obvious times when their favorite team screws up.

Yes it's easy to say that now. But at the time of the draft he never rushed with his hand in the dirt. I didn't feel confident at the time our staff would be able to make it work. If I knew what I know now with what I see on the steelers I would have been on board.

At the time of the draft, the majority of people out there wanted Watt. This was well before we even knew he would drop down that far. I hardly remember anyone at all even mentioning Taco. Dude had a few good games in college but was a huge project and was not worth the risk. It is not hindsight at all. Watt was clearly the better player.

TJ watt is playing his natural position at OLB with the steelers and they also are a great staff at developing linebackers. Would TJ be as effective playing here at the 4-3 end with marinelli as his coach. I'm going to say with 100% certainty that he would be less effective. Carl Lawson from the bengals was my guy that draft. Would have fit in perfectly at the RE spot. But Jerry is an idiot and will only take DE's with a certain arm length

I understood the pick based on game footage and the size difference.
  • Taco projected better to DE than Watt.
  • Having said that, the Cowboys should have learned their lesson before then with regards to mental-makeup.
  • Claiborne and Bobby Carpenter had more than enough athletic ability to be very good players but something was missing with regards to mental makeup.
  • Transplant Sean Lee's brain into the body of Claiborne or Carpenter or Taco and that would be a great football player.

He’s just not as good as the opposing guy in front of him. When we drafted him all reports said he was a project. Now when it comes to those guys it’s not going to happen overnight. I had no problem with the pick but in hindsight you can’t take those guys at that point in the draft.

Nope, totally dumb move and waste of a pick. Only a idiot would take a project in the 1st round.

Cool of you to admit that.

And your guy Lawson isn't too shabby either. We managed to pick the booby prize out if that bag, just like we did with Escobar over Kielce at TE a few years back.

We hit a whole lot, but when we miss? Man, do we ever miss!

He went 18th. If you go strictly by draft position, he could be one of the two biggest Cowboys busts ever. Nobody ahead of 18 was nearly that useless, but Sonny Gibbs, also taken 18th (albeit in the 2nd round in 1962), never played a snap for the Cowboys.

We've had lots of busts in the 20s: Billy Cannon (25th, 1984) and Bill Thomas (26th, 1972) were probably the worst.
If I remember correctly, cannon had a neck injury, or condition, that affected him and ended his career.

Poor Taco, cops an attitude and they're trying to get Gregory re-instated and trade for Quinn and make Lawrence the highest paid 4/3 DE in history. Poor baby. We probably won't get to see the silliest sack celebration in the NFL. Piker sprinkles cheese on that taco like he's at an old ladies luncheon.
