There have been other guys, but when you're a first on a contender it gets magnified.

Kelvin Pritchett.
Shante Carver.
David Lafleur.
Ebenezer Ekuban.

Pritchett was selected by Dallas in 1991 with the sole intention of trading him to the Lions for more picks. Jimmy Johnson did that a few times. Pritchett actually had a pretty decent career with Detroit.

It's not that they didn't like him personally, but he was considered by some as a "soft" player. In fact some teammates nicknamed him "Barbie"; since he also had long blonde hair.

I believe I read it was Cowboy's O-Line coach , Marc Colombo , who gave him that nickname....................

I think Marc Colombo disliked him. He hung the nickname on him.

But he also palled around with Romo and Witten and was one of the infamous Cabo crew. I don't think he was an especially well liked guy across social barriers in the locker room.

Social media was not around in the 1970s and 1980s, even most of the 1990s. Typically most people found out who got drafted via the papers and had no clue what they were about until they actually watched them.

I can only imagine how Gil Brandt's 1st round busts like Bill Thomas, Charley Young, Aaron Kyle, Larry Bethea, Robert Shaw, Howard Richards and Rod Hill would have looked at through today's lens.

I am not making any excuses for McClay and Co. They should own these busts. Just providing a little perspective. Perhaps if fans were in the dark like they used to be it might be a little less painful to watch the mistakes fizzle.
At least Bethea played. If I remember correctly, Kyle and Shaw had injury issues. Richards and Hill just couldn't play.

And Marc Colombo was/is one guy you do not want to get on the bad side of.....

Kyle and Bethea were serviceable, but yeah the rest of that list, yikes

How is he is the wrong system?

What system would fit him better? One like Michigan which had good talent and he could benefit from it like a remora?

To me, it is all about his attitude and his apparent lack of football character.

I think Taco put out a tweet or something a while ago where he said he didn't like the system and hinted that he wanted to just attack and rush the QB first. Here, it appears he is asked to do other things and then rush the QB. Can't remember the specifics. Sounds to me like Taco wants to be more free to go after the QB and just attack.

I would buy that if Dallas promoted a read and react system with the DL. They really don't.

I just think he lacks football intelligence and that is what is holding him back. Blaming the system is usually a side effect when players quite simply don't get what is being asked of them.

Of the Jones era, I think the big 4 are Shante Carver, LaFluer, Taco and Carpenter. For some reason, Carpenter bothers me the most because he was purely a nepotism pick.

Thanks for the info. I just remember him being drafted but not being part of the team.

No matter how much you people slander Taco Charlton, he will always have the fact he came up with the Hot Boyz moniker.

Put that in your collective pipes and smoke it.

Rod Hill wasn't a complete bust. He played a couple of years as the nickel corner. Had a 89 yard punt return. Traded the Buffalo or a 5th and 6th and a twelvth. The 6th became Thornton Chandler (broke his wrist his second season and was released).

Hill bounced around from Buffalo to Detroit and the Raiders. Ended up in Winnipeg for 5 years. With the Bombers he set the team interception record with 47. Set the game record with 5 and career record for blocked punts at 8. Won two Grey cups. Hill is in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame now.

Dude. He was a bust by the definition. I don't care about what he did in Canada.

Carpenter was a "bust", but at least he tried had a role in the nickel defense- not to mention an actual career. If he was a fourth or fifth round pick he'd probably be considered a good pick.

Charlton has attitude issues and it appears the Cowboys can't even move him for a late pick. He's the lone first round miss here over the past decade (Mo Claiborne was a good pick that couldn't stay healthy).
Lol. Claiborne is suspended for Peds right now. He is with the Chiefs. Trying to stay healthy I guess.
