Why not try the 70 yarder?

The chances of making a 70 yarder are just about zero. Whereas with a Hail Mary you can draw a PI.

I didn't understand why at 1:30 left in the game why Dak was even given the option to throw short and medium, only should have been throwing as deep as he can. Coaching again decided to be stupid and go for threshold field goal range, F that get it down inside the 20.
What?

They only needed 50 yards to get into field goal position. That's more than enough time to accomplish that if you don't take a sack, which they did. It's usually an automatic with guys like Brady and Brees.

He actually could have gotten a roughing call, super close, and moved us 15 yards closer. Would have been sweet.
Only a stupid player or team would attempt to block a kick from a kicker trying a 70-yard field goal. And last time I checked, the Saints don't have any Leon Letts on their squad. ;)

On a hail mary "last play of the game pass" there's literally zero chance you'll get a penalty. I've seen dudes get tackled in the end zone before the ball arrives, choke holds, you name it. Never called.

How many 70+ yard fgs have you seen in the NFL?

I realize how unlikely it was.

But we've seen two weeks in a row that Dak can't throw a ball 55 yards into the end zone. Came up woefully short both times.

So why not see if Maher can catch a line drive perfectly flush indoors?

To me, it's the most likely unlikely option there.

Because your best odds are probably on drawing a PI.

Agree but in his defence he had to through that off his back foot like most throws last night

If garrett trotted them out for a 70 yard fg with the game on the line he woulda been fired on the spot

Depends on Maher's range in practice. They can estimate his max range even when he's not kicking it from 70.

If he's over 10% from 70, I would have gone with the kick. I would bet that he is.

It was a darn shame the game came down to either play, a 70 yarder or a hail Mary! Offensively, the Cowboys stunk last night. The defense only gave up 12 points. The fact we couldn't score more the 10 is really concerning. I realize it's early, but you don't see NE failing to score whenever they need to. The Cowboys just aren't there yet.
They failed to score yesterday against the Buffalo Bills. Try again.

They won, right? They scored more points than Buffalo, right? Did the Cowboys? What I said doesn't deserve the "Try again" BS.
