I have to admit that after the game, I was on the "fire Garrett" bandwagon as well. By all accounts, the team regressed into their conservative shell and tried to beat their head against the wall. But after reading Bob Sturm's column "Decoding Kellen", boy was I wrong.
This offensive line, which PFF had rated as the best in the league, got their butts handed to them. Maybe you could call it stadium noise, or maybe they were just out physicaled. But when you look at the breakdown, the coaching was fine. So was the play calling. It was the execution that was subpar.
Travis Frederick looked like a shadow of his former self in the game. Even Zack Martin was getting thrown around like a rag doll. Conner Williams was getting manhandled but that is par for the course.
Then of course you had two bad offensive PI calls, a clock that didn't start at the goal line, two fumbles from two of our playmakers. Oh and they only lost by two points on the road.
Now if this team comes out and lays another egg at home against a Packers team with no weapons, I think we can officially put the kabosh on this being a Super Bowl year. The 2016 team beat the Packers badly at home, this 2019 should at least do that, especially given the status of that team right now.
