It's early, but right now I'd look at it as

-Hill looks really bad.
-McGovern is a total N/A, let's wait and see. This was probably going to be a redshirt year for him anyway, so whatever.
-Day 3 guys are doing about how you'd expect. Pollard looks great whenever he touches the ball, Joe Jackson kind of sucks but he still made the 53, that's fine for a 5th round rookie DE. Wilson made the 53.

Tbh, I don't see any reason to worry about anything yet aside from the Hill pick. There's still 3 1/2 years to go, but not being able to crack the gameday 46 on a team with several DT injuries is really, really bad.

Draft re-do:
2(58) Juan Thornhill S Virginia
3(90) Dawson Knox TE Ole Miss
4(128) Isaiah Johnson CB Houston
5a(158) Charles Omenihu DE Texas
5b(165) Gardner Minshew QB Washington State
6(213) Donovan Wilson S Texas A&M
7a(218) Preston Williams WR Colorado State
7b(241) Jalen Jelks DE Oregon

I think we blew the 2nd round pick big time, felt that way at the time

I understand taking McGovern in the 3rd, but I like Knox's potential

Pollard is legit but I think Isaiah Johnson has special athletic ability

Omenihu seemed like exactly our type of player...position flex, hustles, etc. Has had two sacks so far for Texans

Obviously, everyone missed on Minshew. I'm just not a believer in Cooper Rush so would have taken a chance on the gutsy Wazzou product

Donovan Wilson was a pet cat of mine and would have still taken him despite hitting a homerun with Thornhill earlier

Loved Preston Williams last year, despite of off-field concerns. Through Gallup should have had some insight into his Colorado State teammate. Has looked good for Dolphins so far (27 REC, 1 TD)

I've watched Jelks since his junior year at Desert Vista HS. Really liked that pick. I think he can be a poor man's Danielle Hunter

@Alexander Any reason why you left Amari Cooper out of the equation? Doesn't fit your agenda? Can't snark when you add Cooper to the mix.

Eagles 2019 draft class:
1 22 Andre Dillard - Anyone know how he has played so far? Played 3 games only after Peters got hurt.
2 53 Miles Sanders RB - I'd rather have Pollard.
2 57 JJ Arcega-Whiteside WR - 7 targets and 2 catches in 2 games. Wow!
4 138 Shareef Miller DE - Does he even play? Is he on the team?
5 167 Clayton Thorson QB - on Cowboy PS :D
3rd rounder spent on Golden Tate who is with the Giants :D

Whenever you trade away your first round pick, it's never going to be a vintage draft. But there are plenty of question marks about the players selected.

  • Hill - I would have expected him to be a solid rotation player having a year similar to Maliek Collins in his rookie season. But he hasn't come close to that yet. He'll need to show a lot of improvement in year 2.
  • McGovern - he might be a good player but I question whether he will have a role unless there is an injury to a starter. I could see him being trade bait at some point.
  • Pollard - Good pick that performs when he has the opportunity. The question is will the coaches use him. The Cowboys have been looking for Lance Dunbar's replacement for years. But now that they have him, they don't want to use him like Dunbar.
  • J. Jackson - has so far exceeded expectations for his draft position. But doesn't seem to have a high ceiling. Most likely a backup which isn't bad for his draft position.
  • Wilson - very promising preseason. The question is can he win a starting role next year assuming they don't sign a high profile free agent or use a high draft pick this year.

Didn't say it was. Just adding some perspective. Why don't you take a look around the league before judging, unless you are happy complaining without giving people a fair shot.

No, he was their 1st round pick...

Words have meaning. Cooper was not Dallas’ 1st round pick because he was not in the 2019 draft.

It was a smart use of draft capital, but this is his second year on the team. You can’t lump someone in with this year’s rookies who was already a Cowboy while the rookies were playing college games.

I never judge a class till after year 3. Hopefully get a few guys out of this draft need to hit on picks with expensive players eating up cap.

There are a group of idiotic clownzone losers that have declared that the Cowboys 2019 draft was a failure.

Most people with an IQ above that of a person in a coma believe that draft classes can't be judged by mid-season of year 1.

Most of the non-comatose level IQ fans would not expect much in year one other than what the 1st round pick provides.

The Cowboys 1st round pick has out-performed all others.

I agree with all of the above. Having said that:

I am concerned about Hill. He hasn’t looked good so far and it’s another Marinelli pick.

Almost no flash so far. He hasn’t been active some. Had problems with coaching staff in college. Didn’t start for his own team.

That doesn’t mean he won’t turn out to be a good pick, but SO FAR he has under whelmed.

Id bet anything if this site had a search function you would have posts stating jason williams and robert brewster just needed time.

having said that, this 2019 draft looks much worse than the 2009 draft. that draft at least gave us two good role players in John Phillips and Victor Butler. Hopefully pollard and wilson can become the same and mcgovern can become a starter.

Not having an impactful rookie on a cheap deal sucks. But our 1st round pick netted Cooper and that's proved to be genius. Next off-season we will have a better idea of the rest of these fools.

Amari Cooper: Top 3 player on the team.

Trysten Hill: Not ready

Connor McGovern:
  • Coaches were impressed before he got injured.
  • Based on OTAs they expected him to be a contributor this season.
  • That is why they didn't put on on PUP to start camp.
  • They wanted him to be able to participate in walk-thru practices.
  • Unfortunately he had a setback (re-injured his original injury).
Tony Pollard: Offensive Star of the preseason and has played more than most fans would expect for a 4th round rookie RB with Zeke as the starter.

Michael Jackson: Good enough that another team used a spot on their 53 to sign him.

Joe Jackson: Has been active more often than not. Rookie 5th round picks on DL rarely get playing time if they even make the team.

Donovan Wilson: Defensive Star of the Preseason games.

Mike Weber: Where else would a 7th round rookie RB on a team with the highest paid starter and burgeoning star as a backup be stashed unless he was a special teams star?

Jalen Jelks: They found a way to retain him. They give scrubs that get injured in the preseason an injury settlement. They don't them on IR.

I like our guys.

Hill wasn't picked to play this year. They were stupidly counting on Crawford, so they went more developmental with higher perceived physical upside. Physical freak, showed up with a good attitude. Let him develop.

McGregor sounded like a steal during the draft, and impressed the coaches when he got here. Guys get hurt. People need to get over it. Probably helped us some with keeping other backups we like on the oline.

Pollard turned out to have been a good pick. More than a gadget player. Can run between the tackles. Probably moreso next year after an NFL offseason.

Michael Jackson seemed to disappoint. It happens. We pick for physical traits. Sometimes football players aren't attached.

Jackson, Wilson seem like players. And lots of people were all tingly for Jelks, and we managed to stash him.
