I think fans forget it's not the 1970's and before where players from opposing teams don't interact unless they are battling against each other on the field. Through air travel and cell phones and social media and all star games and recruiting activities the combine and workouts and college and mutual friends and on and on, these players know each other at some level or other. It's a different world.
Yep. ITs tough for these guys to comprehend it.

You must be old. If Emmitt or Payton were playing today, they would be signing jerseys for each other. Just the way it is. Not a big deal at all.
I mean, can't an argument be made that Emmitt started all of this stuff with his mugging for the camera removing his helmet and greedily hoarding all of his touchdown footballs? If 1995 Emmitt was brought forward into the future, he would probably be trying to get every member of the other team's jersey and have them put in glass right there on the field...

I have no problem with this. I have read that, even years ago, fans and media take losses harder- and far more personally- than the players do.

Life in the NFL is a grind. As soon as last night's game was over the majority of the players were probably ready to file it away and start getting ready for Detroit.

They almost have to or the next opponent will eat you alive. Other than watching films and cleaning up your mistakes, you move on.

Am I irrational that this upset me? I know the game has changed but right after a loss?
On his knees no less.

I can't see Emmitt or Walter Payton doing this. Maybe I'm old.

Truth be told, its a business first. That team first and always mentality (aka ride or die) left with FA and big dollar contracts..For me i understand things change and it is what it is. However, I also know I am nowhere near as invested in the Cowboys nor the NFL as I was 20+ years ago.

There's some truth here people.......Emmitt was always thinking about how to capitalize on his stardom. Hell, he still is....and from what I've heard, his wife even more so.

Some of that may be the times - the NFL is different than many of us grew up with. But I think some of it is getting older and having priorities in life that are so much greater than the weekly or yearly fate of the Cowboys. So we are still fans, and still invested, but it doesn't seem as core to life as career and kids and grand kids. It has slide down the list some.

Anyone that come on this site and says they dont take losses hard is full of crap.

The kind of people that waste countless hours on fan message boards absolutely take losses hard.

sorry, but that is not true. I watch football for the entertainment value. Yea during the game, I rant, scream, and holler and want my team to win but after the game, I am done. When I was younger I used to take a loss hard and stew on it a couple of days. But then something happened. I grew up. I realized that having my moods dictated by whether my favorite sports team won or loss or if my dogs life was in danger from my team losing was not healthy. Now I can sleep like a baby regardless of it my team wins or loses. I know there was baseball movie that was made a few years ago that showed the Boston Red Sox fans in complete agony after losing a huge playoff game and then seeing the same Red Sox players laughing and having a good time at a restaurant after the game. They realized if the players didnt replay the pain in their head why should they. Anyone that lets sports affect their moods needs therapy.

I take losses hard, but I've grown incredulous and the distractions of adult life are enough to keep it moving for me. I would agree though, if you're on this message board you're a diehard.

Not a fan of this practice. I wish they would do it behind the scenes, it’s a bad look IMHO.

Now get off my lawn!!!!

Players laugh and shake hands in the middle of the game. I'm not wild about it, but it is what it is.
