One point I would make is given that Garrett has not been calling the plays...then all joking aside what is his purpose!?

He's just irrelevant. Nobody respects him.

If you are a potential future head coach of the Dallas Cowboys then surely that person will want to call the plays!

We are so screwed until Jerry isn't around to meddle in the team affairs.

I always remember the footage of when Jimmy Johnson said, "how 'bout them Cowboys".

The reaction was immense, huge cheers etc..
Except from JJ who HATED the attention being drawn away from him. I think he even stormed off from memory. The clip is on YouTube

But how does a HC "lose play calling duties?" Like, if the higher-ups are better at coaching the team than the HC, fire the HC.
Depending on what report you want to believe, either Garrett and Jerry agreed that a separate OC calling plays would be the path they would take, or Jerry forced Garrett to relinquish play calling duties. Regardless if which is true, it's not unusual for the HC to not call plays.

Not sure we as spectators or fans have ever witnessed a oddball mess like this . usually, when someone underachieves for 10 years, its fairly cut and dry. THEY ARE DISMISSED.

However, it's extremely unusual for that decision to be made by anyone other than the HC. Again, if the owner of the franchise is having to give you coaching tips, you shouldn't be coaching.

It's like Jerry & Jason are in an abusive domestic relationship.

Both parties know it's best for all involved to just sever ties, yet both keep searching for the stupidest reasons to stay attached.

CUT. THE. CORD!

Jason, if you're such an offensive genius, go to NYG, play the Cowboys twice a year, and make Jerry regret letting you go.

Even if this report is true, which I'm not at all convinced it is ....

Being denied play calling duties is not a legitimate argument for him returning. He had play calling duties and the team failed then, and in fact, the offense improved when he lost play calling duties. Granting him another year so he could call plays would be simply dropping the team back into the situation that existed in 2012

I could not remember the year Garrett was calling plays. Either way, they were mediocre then too. Giving him another year to call plays so he could be mediocre again makes no sense.

Jerry is digging deep for a good excuse that will settle this all down and still be able to build excitment later while keeping Garrett as HC.

It's all very simple, Jerry keeps Garrett as HC. All new coaches in every other spot. Maybe a splash trade or FA signing/draft pick and the masses will be sucked right back in.

If Jerry did this, who won't watch every game and every play next season? Some people might say they won't but after a big signing or some good coordinators the vacuum will work it's magic and we will all be here thinking there is hope at the start of next season.

Lets face it, it won't work out for us fans in the end. We the fans lost a long time ago, now we just live on false hopes and imagination.

1. The owner should let the coach coach the team
2. The owner reserves the right to fire the coach should they not like how they coach the team

Garrett is not the right coach for this team just as all the other coaching hires and fires weren't. Parcells was the only guy who could stand up for himself.

Nobody can win with JJ pulling strings.
Garrett should be smart and move on
Jerry is a huge part of the problem here but Garrett had his shot with a very, very long leash
If Garrett is as good as Jerry and Garrett thinks he is then he will get another shot and he can prove himself

Those duties were already stripped from him because he sucked at it and they could never score in the redzone. In fact, every duty he was initially tasked with when hired was systematically stripped from him because he proved incompetent. He basically became the equivalent of Jerry’s son walking around clapping and telling everyone “atta boy”. There’s nothing left to strip from him except the job itself.
