Well, they liked Troy Vincent so would make sense. Very similar players.

Two totally different players

Troy Vincent got INTs, turnovers (47 career) ... Jones won't ever get you turnovers and INTs

Would you prefer to pay a WR 18M to disappear at times?

I would rather sign Jones and replace Cooper in the 1st round. Jones is a more consistent player for about the same money and Cooper has been this since he entered the NFL, this isn't new.
Cooper is who I would tag. I think it's a fair request since he's been up and down, maybe from injuries. But he could be great and a one year prove it deal would be a good idea, imo.
This way we can use the early picks for defense.

Before restructures, with cutting Crawford, they have over ~$90m in space.

They can easily structure the contracts to reduce the cap hit, so even if Dak's AAV is $35m and his cash payout is $40m, his cap hit might only be $20m.
Good deal. So it's not as horrible as some think.

Coming out of Wisconsin, the book on Vincent was that he didn't have great hands and he didn't get turnovers. Good Athlete, wasn't considered as a guy who could get you a lot of TOs. Draft by Miami, after his rookie deal was up, Philly Signed him because they valued his coverage ability. Big Corner who could match up against bigger physical WRs. So tell me, why do you think Philly is considering offering Jones, assuming this is actually true? What do you think they like about Jones?

Sign Cooper and Dak, then franchise and trade Byron. They have the cap space to do this and get valuable draft picks in return.

You’d have to think really hard to remember a signature play that Jones was responsible for comparing him to the rest of our FA crop.

Byron is a good player but he will cost too much. The fact that he is not a ball-hawk has always made it feel easier to see him go, at least for me but I have appreciated his coverage ability (mostly) the last couple of seasons but I don't think he's worth huge money...I like the idea of a comp pick for him, especially as a 3rd.

welling seeing we overpaid for a DE that gets 5 sacks why not paid for a corner that doesn't get INT's?

If I were this GM, I would ask every coach to spend some time and put together their own private list of a ranking of importance of the top 25 players on the team. I would explain to them that the reason I don't want them sharing is that we're going to meet as a group, maybe on my boat since I have one, to discuss the players in an open forum.

I would also ask them for a list of players that have impressed them that might be candidates for FA or trade within reason. Looking for some hidden gems.

What they do with the players, that's their job but this would be a great opportunity to get a read on what they feel about what they've got to work with and who they deem as critical to their success. The quickest way to get a new coaching staff acclimated is by asking their opinion and having them feel that it is valuable.

I would really be honing in on the FA's because I've been too close to it, new eyes and a different perspective would help, particularly with Cooper and Jones, I do see this as an either or situation. I could be wrong and they can keep both.

Considering Jones in FA, has nothing to do with what was considered of Vincent coming out of Wisconsin, as if any of those personnel guys, GMs or coaches were even around the time Vincent was drafted.

But it's clear that Vincent dispelled those supposed pre-draft rumors and supposed flaws, whereas whether safety or CB, getting INTs is clearly not a skill set with Byron, as he doesn't
drive on the ball or has the ball skills or any awareness to produce INTs.

Eagles have been piss poor hurting at CBs for years now and now it's reach it's most climatic point. Every team licks their chops to have a chance to get after their bump n' run, press-CBs.
from what else is available out there in FA, Harris and Jones clearly are meal- tickets in the market this upcoming season.

The Cowboys are in no position to get in a bidding war to keep Byron Jones. The Cowboys have too much other talent to acquisition this offseason to be spending too much of their resources to retain Jones.

This board melts down on a regular basis so what’s the big deal?

if jones gets that pick then law of averages say your good for 3 more years of playing him before he gets another

jones is a good player but Deion and Revis he isn’t so paying him like that at a position you can draft for isn’t the best idea.

if we’re going to lose one of the big 3 then he’s likely odd man out
Yeah, I simply don't comprehend why people care so much if the "board melts down". I would do what I always do and ignore the spewers.

they can have those 2 int's and overpay now if he isn't trying to break the bank then I would have no problem keeping him he isn't terrible
you say that until you watch Chido covering the other teams' WR1.

We have way too many other holes to fill to pay Byron huge bucks. We'd soon regret that contract.

Who better to evaluate DB's than the guy that had to game plan against them?

I am in the minority but Byron Jones would be a critical keep for me. He's the most consistent player on the D and one of the two best. And if a team wants to make their CB's better, get good Safeties.

I keep him, Prescott, Cooper and possibly Quinn. Then shop for a defensive tackle and safety, if we're serious about improving the defense.

We probably need two DTs, but I could live with Woods, Hill and a draft pick (and even Crawford for the right price) competing for time if lined up next to a bona fide starter.

Ends would primarily be Lawrence, Quinn and Gregory.

Our secondary would be Jones, Lewis and Awuzie at corner, a bona fide starting safety and either Woods or Wilson at the other safety spot.

Linebackers would be Smith, LVE and possibly a cheaper FA or draft pick.

If the Joneses do what's been typical in FA the past few years, though, we can expect to likely sign our own and then throw some second- or third-tier guys at DT and S. Hopefully, McCarthy will convince them that they need to do more than that.

Terrance Newman had 16 interceptions his first 5 years in the league. Byron Jones has 2.
True, but he did play out of position his first 3 years. I don't think this defensive staff has done him any favors.

He's still one of the best in the league. The guy gave up 400 yards this season. That's 25 yards a game avg. I will take that all day every day.

I am not all that convinced Jones is going to get the top dollar market that a lot of folks expect him to. He is a solid corner, but I don’t think he is elite. I am aware free agency has a tendency to over value players worth. I am not sold he will be a market setter.

This draft is supposed to be full of solid corners and it would seem that is a resource most will use to land an equal or greater value corner. I would be more inclined to believe he would generate more money if the turnovers were there in his stats to warrant it.

I think he could very well be a second wave free agent signing for someone. Maybe even Dallas. If he lingers in that pay scale territory they should snag him to play alongside with whomever we draft.
