Considering Jones in FA, has nothing to do with what was considered of Vincent coming out of Wisconsin, as if any of those personnel guys, GMs or coaches were even around the time Vincent was drafted.
But it's clear that Vincent dispelled those supposed pre-draft rumors and supposed flaws, whereas whether safety or CB, getting INTs is clearly not a skill set with Byron, as he doesn't
drive on the ball or has the ball skills or any awareness to produce INTs.
Eagles have been piss poor hurting at CBs for years now and now it's reach it's most climatic point. Every team licks their chops to have a chance to get after their bump n' run, press-CBs.
from what else is available out there in FA, Harris and Jones clearly are meal- tickets in the market this upcoming season.
On the contrary, I think the situations are basically the same. I mean, I do realize that it's a long time between Vincent in the early 90s and Jones now but the situations are still familiar. Philly was bad in the secondary for a few reasons but mostly because of injuries. They will be better next year but adding Smith would definitely help them and it would definitely hurt us IMO. That is, of course, unless we replace him with somebody who is better and while I know a lot of the fan base believes Jones is not very good, guys who can do what he does are not exactly littered all over the NFL landscape. So if we are going to go get somebody better, they won't be cheap and so, where does the money come from? The whole reason we might lose Jones is because of Cap.
Now, if by "years" you mean two season, then OK but the Eagles have not been terrible in the secondary for all that long. In 2017, they were the 4th ranked Defense in the NFL, 4th in TOs and 4th in INTs. They have not been bad for years but, they have been forced to allow players to move on and have been forced to replace them with other, less productive players. Now, why is that? What has happened that has forced these moves because traditionally, Philly has always been about Defense and good strong secondary play.
As an FYI, the concerns over Vincent when he signed with Philly were still the same. He didn't have great ball skills. That didn't change when Philly signed him, they were still there. Now, it looks like they are trying to get back to what they were when they won the SB. I mean, they still have to actually sign guys but if this info is true, then that's probably going to make them better and us weaker. JMO
