I agree.. when 5'9" Dre Bly is on 6'3" T.O in the redzone and no jumpball fade's are thrown .....

I :puke: at the playcalling in the redzone....Either Bill/Chris/Haley/Saprano has no brains to call it or Romo has no Nads to throw it....

Owens looked open on the last play but Romo decided to try and be a hero
by running it in.

No one ever rumored it to be anything. People simply stated that his YAC in Dallas was lacking due to the lack of creativity with our offensive braintrust. Let's examine.

CAREER RECEIVING STATS
Year Team Rec Yds Avg Lg TD 1st YAC Trgt
1996 SF 35 520 14.9 46 4 23 214 58
1997 SF 67 1097 16.4 79 14 52 401 104
1999 SF 60 754 12.6 36 4 36 229 98
2000 SF 97 1451 15 69 13 65 644 148
2001 SF 93 1412 15.2 60 16 70 521 155
2002 SF 100 1300 13 76 13 61 599 159
2003 SF 80 1102 13.8 75 9 55 371 146
2004 PHI 77 1200 15.6 59 14 51 404 127
2005 PHI 47 763 16.2 91 6 32 337 92
2006 DAL 85 1180 13.9 56 13 62 351 152

The stats support my argument from the recent weeks. During the years in which he lit the league on fire his YAC was well above 500 yards in a full season. This year, due to the lack of our offensive brain trust to put the guy in position to make plays, his YAC is 351 yards...

Please remember what was tossed back and forth before just making blanket statements like that. I find it amazing that the finally found success when they started throwing him quick slants and short crosses.

Also observe the last stat. "times targeted"

It appears they're not throwing him the ball any more often than he was getting it thrown to him in San Fran during those years. If they would have been hitting the slants and crosses earlier this year his YAC would have been in line with those previous years. Sorry.. I couldn't find "drops" but I am sure someone will factor those into this conversation.

I'm trying to get over my "apologist" title but you're not helping.

I would agree with that somewhat.

Think about it, it seems like every team in the league has thrown at least ONE quick slant that went for a long td except us.

With or without T.O., it neer seems like we can ever get our receiver ino the open field on a quick slant.

I think it's the design of the plays, I don't think they do a good job of drawing the defense to the opposite side of the field.

Everytime we throw a quick slant, no matter who it's to, even if the receiver beats the 1st guy, there's always at least another 2 guys around him.

In my opinion, our plays don't do a good job of drawing attention to the opposite side of where the slant is designed to go.
