18 Years Ago Today... Super Bowl XXVII

I know...it was great when the Pats did it following 9/11 but after that, it should have been retired. As far as I know, most, if not all NFL teams still do it for every home game so if the NFL really wants to enforce this "Team" concept, they might as well ban player introductions in ALL games.

Wow, I remember that game like it was played yesterday, one of the best Cowboys game of all time.

It will happen again someday hopefully in our lifetime. Not sure Jerry will live long enough to see another. Hopefully that thought will motivate him.

I was 13 then, and I remember a couple of my 7th grade classmates saying that the Bills would whip the Cowboys in the Super Bowl since they beat the 49ers (which was my classmates' favorite team). My classmates talked smack to me all week leading up to the Super Bowl. I loved how they were all quiet from that point on. What made that particular Super Bowl even sweeter was that it was the first Cowboys Super Bowl I had witnessed, because all I had before that were stories from other people about the other 2 Super Bowls that they won, and they both were before I was born (I was born in 1979.). Oh, and all through junior high and my first 2 years of high school, all I ever heard from everybody was how Barry Sanders was the best RB in the NFL and that the 49ers were the best team in the NFL.

I was 23 and obviously had waited most of my life for that day.

I actually wasn't all that nervous. In fact I can't remember being more confident in a big game since the 81 Championship Game(wrong).

But all my nerves and demons were excorcised two weeks earlier in Candlestick.
That was my out of body, I can't believe this was happening moment.

For SB XXVII I just took a very logical approach that we were simply too good for them and wouldn't be denied.

I have to tell you, the two weeks after the NFC Championship game and two weeks after that SB win, was the most satisfying time I had as a Cowboy fan living in Philly.

The hate for all things Cowboy is strong in Philly. The thought of the Dallas Cowboys actually winning a blanker blanking Super Bowl was to much to much to bare for your average eagle fan.

Now you pile ME on top of that. The ball breaking that month was legendary.:laugh2:
I reconnected with more "friends" that month than I did my first month on Facebook.

You and me both! I too was 23 and was living in Philly! After beating the Eagles in the playoff's, then the NFC championship game I was sooo hyped up, Listening to 610 WIP everyday all day and your right ALL THE HATE FOR anything COWBOYS! The game was great, I lost my vioce from screaming. The only thing better was that I now could go and look into the face of all the Eagles fans and smile (and collect a few bets also), it made my year. I didnt have to worry about the next two or three years after that either. GOOD TIMES!!!!!

After beating the Eagles in the playoff's, then the NFC championship game I was sooo hyped up, Listening to 610 WIP everyday all day and your right ALL THE HATE FOR anything COWBOYS! The game was great, I lost my vioce from screaming. The only thing better was that I now could go and look into the face of all the Eagles fans and smile (and collect a few bets also), it made my year. I didnt have to worry about the next two or three years after that either. GOOD TIMES!!!!!

I had one of my victims spot me on Temple campus just as I spotted him. So there was no avoiding me. I start in on him and I still remember him telling me he could count my teeth halfway down the block.

I was one smiling mofo for I can't say how long. I think I wore a Cowboys jersey every day that whole spring semester.

Wearing that jersey and a big fat smile was like the ultimate ** to any eagle fan within eye sight.

After all these years, I couldn't believe how easy we could associate a name with a team affiliation. Steeler fan, Vikings fan, Dolphins fan, Cowboys, Cowboys, Cowboys, Cowboys, Cowboys. Almost as many Cowboy fans as Eagle fans in the class.

Not sure if it was that the Eagles sucked but for me I think so many kids our age grew up with the late 70's and early 80's cowboys! When we played football I always wanted to be Tony Dorsett!!! Plus everyone was a Eagle fan and I always did what I wanted to do, not what everyone else did. I caught hell for many years, but it was all worth it. I grew up in Mt. Airy and Germantown. Went to germantown high. As much as I cant stand the Eagles I still respect the fan base, they just want to win. I still get home every now and then (going back this weekend)!!!
