He was having a very rough game up to that point: two fumbles (one of which was inside the Minny 15), a missed handoff, and a constant limp. Oh well, we won.

And if the internet was around TD would of been getting skewered for that, not to mention Roger for throwing that pass behind Golden Richards.

Ah, how times change.

I know he may not be the best punter the Cowboys have had, but watching that video reminds me just how much I miss having Danny as the punter! His fake punts were priceless! :D

Hollywood Henderson could have gone down as the one of the greatest LB's in history is he hadn't thrown it all away. The great Lawrence Taylor wore #56 because of Henderson.

Always loved the oline "up/down" movement.

I don't know why more teams don't run the fake punt. There are lots of times when the defense is setting up for the return and the punter has no one in front of him. It would help keep the receiving team from setting up as quickly if we ran the fake once in a while.

Danny was a threat to throw it if he got into trouble. I always liked having kickers/punters who played another position so they weren't taking up a roster spot but that hasn't happened in many years now.

I didn't start following the Cowboys closely until a year later, so this game was pretty much new to me when I downloaded it last week. Here are some of the better moments in the game (which we won easily, 23-6) that I uploaded to YouTube. You might need to crank the volume a little.

Man, This was wayyy before my time. Good seeing the history though.

I was in Junior High and that was just when I started really appreciating the Cowboys - great time to be a fan.

One of Tony's real problems was his propensity to fumble.

worshiping the team right after that one, when Danny took over, but I'm so glad to see the franchise at it's height.

I gotta say, though, Hollywood Henderson was a FANTASTIC player. Too bad coke did him in, but looking at those vids, plus other ones, he would dominate TODAY..

what waste of a career.

Henderson had the talent to be one of the best linebackers to EVER play the game, better even than L. Taylor of the Giants (who had a "slight" coke problem himself). What a sad thing it was to watch back then as Thomas flushed his NFL career down the toilet :star:

Tarkenton tore his Achilles early in the season, and it ended his career.

The Vikings squeaked into the playoffs in 77, and beat the Rams in a mudpit at the LA Coliseum in the divisional playoffs. The Rolling Stones had performed there the week before, and the combo of the stage/seating damaging the turf along with torrential rains wrecked the field.

That Dallas team was not going to be denied that year. Top offense and defense in the league.

Taylor has said that he wore #56 because he idolized Henderson. Who knew?
