We are all talking about the game winning FG. I don't recall anything controversial about the kick to end the first half.

I wish I could re watch the game when your at a bar with no sound it’s hard to follow everything as closely as you would like

I believe they just had 1 timeout to start that drive. The extra down sounds nice on paper and in a non-two-minute drive situation, I would probably enforce the penalty. But all it takes is a quick incompletion on 1st down - an inaccurate pass, batted ball, etc. and then suddenly it's 2nd and 10 and you lose that advantage. The goal is to get a big chunk play downfield to get into FG range and 2nd and 2 gives you more potential to do that. That's why there's a saying that "2nd and short is every playcaller's dream" because the entire playbook is open in that down and distance.

Certainly, it could go sour but that's life. As a coach, I would always be thinking my team could make up the yardage with a timeout with 53 seconds left. (Unless they had been completely inept all game. Like several games last year) In fact, I would be thinking of getting more than just the bare minimum for a FG but that's me.
I think it's a toss up decision. Comes down to your personality and feel for the game. Not saying there is a wrong answer.

Ok I see it now. Thanks for the picture. I agree, I wish the goalpost cam could have shown it. I watched it like 10 times and still thought it was a miss. But hey I'm not the ref and we won so I was good. Now I see it.

It took a few tries but I finally got a still shot of the ball obscuring the goalpost. This should settle any argument anyone might have that the kick was no good.

Like I said.. Maher killed that ball. It went above the SkyCam and was still well above the top of the goalposts when it went over ( not through) the posts. Because it was kicked from right to left on the screen there is the illusion that the ball came close to hitting the goalpost.

That field goal was good by a couple of feet to the right.. those extra three yards was difference between wide right and goin to sleep happy

I disagree.. The ball passed over the crossbar well above the goalposts and a good 5-6 feet inside. It's just the illusion from the end zone camera angle that makes it appear that it barely made it.

1st and 5 vs 2nd and 2 doesn’t seem like much of a difference in picking up the first down when you have four downs to work with.

Plus you get 3 yards closer to field goal range.

I was fine with the decision in real time and thought Tony was off. I think he only mentioned it because he thought the clock would be running if we declined the penalty. He clarified a little later it was a close decision with the clock stopping in both scenarios.

Do y’all remember that scenario after there was a defensive holding call. We got an 8 yard play and I thought we would still accept the penalty to stay at first down but MM chose to decline it to make it 2nd and 2.

Was I the only one that would rather have the extra down rather than the two yards?

I didn’t like mm’s decision on that one even though it didn’t really matter in the long run.
Not accepting the penalty doesn't make any sense because the Boys are going to get yardage on that penalty, plus a free down to boot!

Nice, thanks bro, I appreciate it.

For defensive holding, it is a 5 yard penalty and a new set of downs (not 1st and 5). So the choice was either:

Accept the penalty: 1st and 10 at the 40
Decline the penalty and take the play: 2nd and 2 at the 43

So in this case, it was the right decision. They took the extra yards but more importantly, you have more options in your playbook on 2nd and 2 (defense still has to account for the run) compared to 1st and 10 (most likely a passing play)
This is correct. I was thinking it was offsides or something for some reason. Second and 2 +3 yards is the right choice over 1st and 10.
