so what is our system asking our players to do? we dont blitz because we havent shown we can play well in base sets yet. however we consistently get beat deep year after year with zimmer. so no pressure on the qb would seem to equal not taking chances and at least not getting beat deep but thats not the case. we get beat deep and we cant pressure the qb. sounds like we need a new system.

You won't get a disagreement from me as far as our system being crap. But the issue here, I thought, was Merriman vs. Ware. I maintain that the SYSTEM is what is preventing Ware from being the beast that he can be....and that if Merriman were here, he would have NOWHERE near the sacks that he does.

Like I said...he wasn't light years ahead of Ware in sacks prior to today anyway, so this debate is pretty pointless.

You remember when TO joined the Cowboys and this forum gave him his own subforum? I think it's time Mr.Merriman got one...

win their individual battles, the only one who's really doing that is Ware

yes but the guy is on pace for seven sacks this year. regressing from last year and everyone makes him out to be the savior of our D. all i heard coming out of the draft was that we have a dominant pass rusher. 15 sacks in two years is not even close. thats ebeneizer ekuban status.

Lyle Alzado.

Kyle Turley.

Tony Mandarich.

David Boston.

Brian Bosworth.

Just a few that have either admitted to using, or the evidence against them is pretty compelling based on changes in their bodies.

Once off the juice guys mysteriously disappear. The reason they remain a blight on society is becuse some people don't see them as any benefit or harm to the game.

Crazy.

Maybe it's just me, but if I could choose, I'd go non-cheater over cheater every time.

Gross is about to get rocked.

Don't know if this has been hit yet but anyone think he appealed the suspension so he could get every last play out of his juice before its gone?

That is ridiculous. Ekuban has 27 career sacks in just over 7 years. That is not quite 4 a season. It is obvious Ware is the better pass rusher.

Why do you have to put Ware down to promote Merriman? Ware is doing a good job in Dallas. Can he be better? Yes. He is doing quite a bit to help the Dallas defense. I don't see how anyone cannot be glad that he is on the team.

Sure Merriman is good, too. Now with the sterioids issue, he is tainted. Everything becomes a question mark. Maybe the steroids gave him no advantage, maybe they did. We don't know, but it looks bad. It is also going to cost him 4 games. Ware doesn't even have to register a sack in those 4 games that Merriman misses, but he will still help his team because he will be on the field. It is a shame because Shawne is a good player and has now put himself in a bad position. That hurts his team.

I don't buy the whole scheme issue between Merriman and Ware. Wade Phillips is no genuis. Neither is Zimmer. Sometimes plays develop that give the defender an obvious advantage and sometimes they do not. I saw Merriman play yesterday and he benefitted on one sack by being blocked by a running back. He needed to take advantage of the matchup and he did. On another play, Bulger had time to throw the ball, but he just patted it and then kind of scrambled right at Merriman. Shawne had kind of played containment on the play before Bulger headed his direction. Good players take advantage of good situations.

That happens sometimes and right now it isn't happening too often for Ware. I rarely see an opposing offense forget to block Ware or use only a back. The Cowboys line certainly has made it easy for some opposing defenders when they miss assignments. Ware hasn't had the golden opportunities and when he does he needs to make a play. He also needs to make a few more plays when it isn't an ideal situation. He is playing well and he can play better.
