I think they need to change that call. It should be a judgment call, which is reviewable just like they do in college before they eject a player.

I say this because linemen are always trying to swipe the ball out of the quarterback's hand, particularly if the quarterback is trying to throw the ball. What if you swipe after the ball but hit the quarterback in the head instead? Should that be a penalty? Of course, not.

The intent behind the rule is to stop defenders from purposely targeting the quarterback's head. It's not to protect them from the occasional touch of the helmet due to pursuing the quarterback.

It should have been called, but I'm glad it wasn't.

Nice analysis. Agree. This is about intentional, not incidental......

I get that it might have been a legit call, but to construct a narrative that that one call was the game is frustrating, especially with the numerous sketchy drive killing calls going against us. Besides, I doubt that hit made Bradford throw the ball ten yards out of the back of the end zone.....

Agree. I think the defender caused him to start to fall backward and caused the high throw....

Is that all they are going to talk about now? One play? The same play where there was a blatant false start on the Vikings that wasn't called? No mention of the numerous phantom calls against us all night long? Is the narrative for this game really going to be that the Vikings were sunk by the refs? Seriously?

This reminds me of the 2014 playoff game against the Lions. All they talked about afterward was the reversed call on Hitchens and we ended up paying for it the following week when Dean Blandino inexplicably overturned the Dez catch. Don't look for us to get any calls next Sunday night.

I love this. One call in our favor and the sports world is apoplectic. For me this just proves the bias is usually against us because even one call in our favor creates such a storm since the opposite is the norm and gets little coverage.

11-1.

I'm expecting through Giants to get crazy preferential treatment this Sunday too.

Did any of you see ESPN's conversation with the official concerning the play last night? He said that Thorton should have been called for the helmet hit, but then stammered about how the Vikings tackle really didn't move all that much! It was asinine.

I hate that call either way. A hand hits someone with a HELMET. Come on!!

Anyways, that throw had already come out of his hand...was gonna be horrible either way.

I know. The players come off the field after a good play and all their teammates are hitting them in the helmet way harder than that. The NFL today is a far cry from the one I fell in love with in the early 70s.

I can agree with that, but unfortunately there's a vocal fringe element in the fanbase that ignore the blown calls that favor the Cowboys because they're too busy waiting for the next call to feel indignant about.

it's a dead play and the hit to the helmet never happens if the refs make the correct call on the false start. they missed both.

Exactly. That hand to the head had nothing to do with that throw.

Not 100% efficient? Try 1 for 9 on third down...4 fumbles...2 lost...10 penalties for 78 yards...6 punts...and only 26 minutes time of possession. The Giants don't have to be world beaters to beat a team with the aforementioned stat line.

We'll have far more rest for the game vs them. And I also don't expect us to have our two worst games, two games in a row.

I'm just mad at Thornton being so dumb. That's a mental mistake.

This I agree with. Under no circumstance should you allow that to possibly happen there. I know it's extremely difficult to prevent at times but you have to be super careful, especially at that point in the game.

"didn't move all that much" is still a penalty if it's pre-snap. He clearly moved before the ball. Penalty.

Couple of calls that went against us that I didn't particularly like:

Clipping call on Esco.
Hold on Free.
And this one I haven't seen mentioned, but I think it was Scandrick who was called for hands to the face on the TE...the two were hand fighting, the TE threw Scan's arms up, and one hit his helmet. Like...come on. If a player throws his head into someone's hands, is it a penalty?

The OPI on Patterson was an extremely weak call. No legit WR has that called against them. Dez does worse on at least 50% of his catches. But he's always physical and in dog fights every play, so that stuff isn't called.

There were some weird penalties called (and not called) both ways.

I would think if they were going to whine about something it'd be how they gifted the 7 points to us on the fumbled punt.
Dallas could not drive on them all night (except on one long play to Dez). Then they give them (us :)) the ball in the redzone like that.
Disastrous.

I also didn't get why Bradford didn't throw the ball somewhere, anywhere, where it at least it potentially could be caught on that extra point. Who cares about the stats and if it's picked...at least give your team a chance.

In the end, too bad, we win :)

Yeah that was ridiculous!! I've never seen a ref throw a flag for hands to the face when the fingers unintentionally connect with the ear hole and it had zero affect on the TE getting off the ball. I thought that was a phantom call, along with the Escobar clip <<<<< whattttttttt?
