saw this on the DC mailbag...thought it was a good topic..

Would you be for or against going for 2 just about every time? I say just about bc obviously there will be situations where it isn't necessary

The Steelers went for 2 a ton last year and had big success...I think they are planning on doing it even more often this season

We are an offensive team..would it behoove us to go for two more often? We have an incredible amount of talent on offense...Imo, we should be a lot more aggressive in these situations...

What do you think?

The Line, Elliott, Dez, Witten, and Beasley should make 2 easy.

I'd be for it...you just better make it or I'll second guess the hell out of you!!! :muttley:

With our o-line, and our talent, we should be going for 2 more often. But our coach is Jason Garrett and he is boring "by the books" guy. Even though the current shift in the game rewards the more aggressive risk takers IMO

I hate that they moved the extra point attempt back to the 15 yard line. It removes the fake try now. Either they kick it or they go for the 2 points.
It sucks. Change it back.

If we are ahead or playing even, no...with Dan Bailey as the kicker, the extra point is practically automatic. If we are playing from behind and time is running out then we do what we have to do. If you fail to complete a two point conversion and your defense can't bail your offense out most of the time(sound familiar?) then you will be playing from behind anyway so why risk putting yourself in that position?

How about making it more times than not and being in the lead and giving the crap defense more of a buffer...being up 8 is an easier lead to hold than being up 7...

It's an unnecessary risk. Get your 7 points and then let the defense get the ball back so your offense can go get 7 more. Gambling is an industry because most people doing it are losing. Never gamble when you have a sure thing.

As long as my kicker is deadly accurate I go for the 1. Late in game if need to then of course I would go for the 2

I wouldn't say they went for 2 a "ton", they only had 11 attempts all season. They did go 8-11 but they didn't go for 2 that often. They were very vocal about it and got media coverage for that, which creates the perception that they went a "ton", also they had 5 more attempts than the second place Packers. The Steelers did have 45 total TDs so they went for 2 less than 25% of the time.

How are false starts handled on these? If you get penalized going for 2, can you switch up and kick from the 20 or do you have to stick with going for 2 from the 7?

Not really you can go for fake kick. .....defenses would think like you. That teams wouldn't do it leaving guys not expecting it

I'm a believer in taking the extra point and only going for two when you need to. A missed conversion can come back to haunt you.

Any offense that is good enough to pass on PATs shouldn't need to because they will likely be scoring more than 2 or 3 times per week.

I guess a historically great offense with a historically awful defense may make sense.

Missed 2 point conversions will end up costing you more loses. Extra points are pretty much automatic . Two point conversions are not .
