Jason Garrett owes a huge THANK YOU to Minnesota, so 2 more wins and we’re NFC East Champs.
What a wild NFL Sunday yesterday was, first the Minnesota Vikings put up 40 against the Eagles without their best and seemingly only offensive player in AP, then the Cowboys are walking all over the Packers in the first half. So its 5:00 CST and the Cowboys are thinking that the division can be clinched in Week 16 with a win at WSH and a PHI loss to the hungry Bears. Good times indeed.
And then -- all of the sudden -- all hell breaks loose. Packers come back on the Cowboys, the man from Princeton calls the most controversial and bizarre game plan, the Cowboys woes continue. Packers win! Now Philly can clinch the division in Week 16 with a Cowboy loss at WSH and a PHI win against the Bears. What a rollercoaster of a season this is, it’s almost unbelievable and unbearable.
Jason Garrett has a job thanks to Matt Cassel and the Vikings, he is however almost dead, ICU keeping him alive, and every play, every down will be crucial to his not only Cowboys career, but his NFL coaching career. As a Cowboys fan, I refuse to accept a loss, and I will never be happy with a loss and with elimination. True, we lose out, and Garrett is out for sure, but I believe even if Garrett makes the playoffs, his job is in jeopardy. It would take a win at WSH, a win at home vs PHI and a win at home vs SF in order for Garrett to be released from ICU, and after that, who wouldn’t be happy? I know I would.
Even with a depleted defense, and even with the worst loss I can remember, I still feel hope. Mainly because we play the Commanders next week, and everybody hates the Commanders. Count it as an official elimination game for Romo, this one counts, this one is in December and this one is in the road, it won’t be easy, but if we lose even hope, what else do we have? Romo needs help however, the defense better show up; otherwise Kirk Cousins will break some kind of record next week.
Because even if Tom Brady lost the game with a 4th quarter INT and nobody talks about it, nobody says anything, despite his defense ‘holding’ the Miami offense to 24, and him ‘only’ needing 27 points to win, despite Eli not being mentioned at all, despite him having a historical bad season (not only statistically but also leading his team to a dismal record), and Tony Romo putting up All-Pro numbers out there, critics, fans, and the media doesn’t care about anything except a Romo headline. He has more pressure than any other player in football, and it’s not even close. It takes a great team effort to erase the ghost, the legend.
Week 17 at home versus Phily for the division is what we want, what we should be rooting for, not personnel changes, not things we can’t control, let’s root and cheer for what we enjoy which is a division championship. I know I will.
