Regarding the types of running plays, we run so many draws because statistically they are one of our most effective plays. I know we would like for our gigantic OLine to just line up and steamroll people, but going back to last year we average about 2 ypc on runs up the middle, but 5 or 6 ypc on sweeps and draws. Jason Garrett and company have these numbers too, so surprise surprise, they run what works, not what we would like to work.

I just wish we could learn to draw up/execute some plays underneath. It's been philadelphia's bread and butter for years and they've never had half the backfield that we currently do. Hell, we hardly if ever run a basic screen play.

Felix Jones could be dangerous underneath.

Felix is looking like he doesnt have that cut speed hes had previously ..im wondering if he is 100%

If we had a real QB like Brady Quinn it would open up the running game. :)

Rushing yards per carry has very little to do with winning in the NFL. As long as you're not terrible and/or constantly losing yards rushing, the rest doesn't mean a lot -- except that you need to be able to convert on short-yardage runs, as the Eagles found out.

Disgust...that this doesn't do it for some people.

I prefer to look at yards per play.

And the current top 5:

1st) Dallas @ 6.5
2nd) NO @ 6.4
3rd) Indy @ 6.3
4th) Pitt @ 6.1
5th) NE @ 5.9

Record of said teams: 33-6

I don't think there's any doubt that this team's identity is its passing game. Just as it is in New England, Indianapolis, New Orleans, etc. Our ground game is damn good and has an ability to finish, but we're not a run, run, run kind of team at all.

I do agree, however, that I'd like to see a little less of that draw to Barber. It's still effective at times but starting to run its course I think.

with three very good running backs (I'm not counting romo's three kneel downs)...

First place NFC East. 4 game winning streak. Huge road win vs team many considered superbowl favorite.

Discuss.

Am I the only one who thinks Philly has a pretty damn good defense?
Even though they are patched together they were nasty.

We beat them. I'm soooooo disappointed we didn't average 5.3 on the ground.

I agree with OP, the Cowboys should sacrifice success to raise the yards per carry. Feic this going with what works nonsense.

Felix Jones could be dangerous underneath.

I'm beginning to think Felix hasn't got the speed or shiftiness he had before the injury, as he really hasn't done much with his opportunities. I really thought the Cowboys could run on the Eagles, but they were pretty much shut down until the last drive.

We ran just enough to keep the defense honest. As someone else said earlier, the Eagles do a lot of run blitzing so it can be hard at times to consistently run against them. The best way to defeat that defense is to stay patient and then catch them with a few big plays, makig them pay for their aggressive nature.

If you heard the post game interviews, Romo said that our approach is taking what the defense is allowing, (seeing what their game plan seems to be and we adjust - basic football 101).

Why force feed the kid if he's not hungry?

Also, didn't we have over 200 rushing yards in our lost to the G-men? Yeah, gotta get those rushing yards....:bang2:
(I know we had alot of turnovers in that game but you get the point)

That was a very well called game. No complaints here.

We're probably never going to run as much as some in here want as long as Red is calling the plays. I, for one, would like to see a lot more of Felix.

But we just have to deal with it. And enjoy the victories!!

...do alot of run blitzing. It's like the proverbial 8 or 9 men in the box.

Tough to run against that type of defence and tough to pass because there is so much pressure.

Good patient game by the Cowboys.

You beat that with screens and RBs out in wheel routes.

One thing I can say for the Eagles...that is one quick defence. It's a quality unit.

Spot on!! Sometimes you win with patience. I recall the teams of the mid 90's did!!
