Only 2 rookies have more attempts than Dmac Slaton and Hester. Only 2 RB has more rushing yards that Dmac Johnson and Hester. He is putting up number whether you want to give him credit for it or not.

To me...and it really is too early for this...I think the most impressive so far have been, in no order:
Felix, DMac, Johnson, Rice and Hester. They all have nice numbers against either 1st or 2nd units and are not really playing alot in the 2nd half. Also their ypc's are 5.4, 5.1, 8.8, 6.4, and 4.3 respectivley....not bad.

But at some point I may need to add Forsett to the list. He has 194 yards on 28 carries, but is playing only the second half...so it's very hard to measure.

Sounds like Steve Slaton is going to get his shot to run with the 1st unit this week in the Dallas/Houston game.

Also Ray Rice is set up to start again, so he should roll vs St Louis.

Here are the rush/rec totals after preseason wk 3 (car-yds-tds, ypc, fumble)

McFadden: rush= 18-92-0, (4.4 ypc) ...rec= 1-5-0 ...0 fum
Stewart: rush = 14-103-1, (7.4 ypc) ...rec = 0-0-0 ...0 fum
K Smith: rush = 14-64-0, (4.6 ypc) ... rec = 1-(-6)-0...0 fum
M Forte: rush = 25-87-0, (3.5 ypc) ... rec = 5-24-0 ...0 fum
F Jones: rush = 14-59-0, (4.2 ypc) ... rec = 5-60-0 ...1 fum
C Johnson: rush 25-158-1, (6.3 ypc) ... rec = 3-36-0 ...0 fum
R Mendenhall: rush = 33-143-1, (4.3 ypc) ... rec = 2-15-0 ...2 fum
R Rice: rush 19-109-1, (4.3 ypc) ... rec 7-38-0 ... 0 fum
J Charles: rush 4-13-0, (3.3 ypc) ... rec 1-12-0 ... 0 fum
J Hester: rush 25-108-3, (3.8 ypc) ... rec 3-26-0 ... 0 fum
R Torian: injured so far
S Slaton: rush = 34-138-1, (4.1 ypc) ... rec 2-5-0 ... 0 fum
T Choice: rush 12-39-1, 3.4 ypc) ... rec 2-9-0 ... 0 fum
T Hightower: rush 24-103-3, (4.3 ypc) ...rec 4-14-0... 1 fum
-------------------
Just some notes; Stewart finally got on the field and looked very good in wk 3. I could add Justin Forset and M Hart--Forsett has 194 yds on 28 carries, but it has only been against the 3rd stringers so far w/ 186 yards in two games...it's up to you all. Oddly, he may not even make the cut in Seattle.

Mendenhall and McFadden will be the clear top RB's of this class. Nothing against Jones at first i was livid we passed Mendenhall but im over it and like the potential homerun threat that jones is (although i want to see him break a little more tackles) in compliment to Barber. still yea mendenhall will be special he has it all, he and Parker will be the best RB tandem in the NFL this year

I like AD/Taylor, LT/Sproles as well.

Washington has a nice one too, but that might be winding down.
yea those should be awesome as well. although to be honest im probably in the minority on this but i think this is the year that LT will begin to slip a little. He has had so many carries and catches in his career which eventually leads to wearin down even as great as specimin he is physically. also you have to add the fact that Gates and Rivers arent completely healthy yet it appears so you will see a lot of 8 man fronts trying to stop LT. Washington they didnt use Betts as much as they should have last year IMO...

Yea, but LT slipping a little just brings him down to human status.

I think Deangelo Williams is a little overrated, but Carolina could have something going. Stewart reminds me of MB3.

I also think Turner is overrated, but I like Norwood, so they could be good together. Great balance.

If Felix can make plays like Norwood than we should be in good shape

Chicago RB is starter Forte the Rookie from Tulane might have a better season than any of these listed.

Look again....he is listed. Here are stats thru 3 preseason games.

T Hightower: rush 24-103-3, (4.3 ypc) ...rec 4-14-0... 1 fum

I agree, Forte may end up with more yards than the whole group because he (and K Smith) may get far more carries. That woud be the only reason though---because they landed on teams with out good RBs. I don't think he's anywhere near the best back, but he may get a lot of yards anyway.

I may have to take a look at Hightower for my fantasy draft on Thursday. He has been quite impressive in the preseason. He runs with a style similar to Barber....bruising with attitude. I like that he has a nose for the endzone.

We'll try to keep a running tab on rushing/receiving totals for:

D McFadden, OAK
J Stewart, CAR
K Smith, DET
M Forte, CHI
F Jones, DAL
C Johnson, TEN
R Mendenhall, PIT
R Rice. BAL
J Charles, KC
J Hester
R Torain, DEN (when he gets healthy)
S Slaton, HOU
T Choice, DAL
T Hightower, AZ
--------------------
Barring injuries, Forte and Smith and then McFadden have the easiest route to getting the main workload. But all of the above should see plenty of action during the season.
Let me know if I missed someone.

It's good to see someone finally mention Kevin Smith and Matt Forte. I think both of those guys will be workhorses for their respective teams and will reach 1,000 yards.

Good analogy....he really is beast-like (or barbarian like!) when he totes the rock. And he plays in a good offense.
