And the front of jerseys will no longer have numbers but they will say Quiznos or something stupid on it.

Pretty soon the Super Bowl will be on a Monday PPV from Japan.
For someone that claims he has the best interests of the fans at heart, he has a very strange way of showing it.
Fact is, he doesn't. It is about the dollar and what I resent the most about that is not the avarice, but the insulting of our intelligence while he does it.

He could be the downfall of the NFL as America's premier sports league pretty quick.
casmith07;2852357 said:Unfortunately what a lot of you don't realize is that the vast majority of fans are not "hardcore". They don't know who is on their starting offensive line and if their team isn't on locally they don't watch. They don't buy Sunday Ticket to watch every game etc etc.
I think that moving it to primetime on Friday would have made much more sense but the NFL is a business. Sure this sucks - I'll have to try and find a TV at 2am because I'll be in Iraq this time next year! But in all seriousness yeah it bites but all of the fans acting like the NFL owes them something is ridiculous.
jswalker1981;2852420 said:I definitely think that primetime on Friday would be better. Just have the first round on Friday, then have rounds 2-3 or 4 on Sat, then 4 or 5-7 on Sun. It would be much better than the new plan. But I still miss the way it was before he changed it to 1st and 2nd rounds on one day.
I personally don't want to see that happen. The NFL Draft just "fits" perfectly in a New York setting. I get there a day before and stay a couple days after the draft just to sight-see, etc.; make it a nice little 5-6 day get-away...jswalker1981;2852125 said:I really hope they move it out of NYC and around to some other areas. It doesn't have to be in a team's home town, but a city nearby. It needs to move around, and let other fans enjoy the draft. I live in FL, and I'm sure Bucs, Dolphins, and possibly Jags fans would love to see the draft. In TX, you obviously have Cowboys and Texans fans. In California, the NFL would have 49ers, Raiders, Chargers fans, and probably Cardinals and Seahawks fans as well. Heaven forbid we see something different besides Eagles, Giants, Jets, and Bills fans.
That's a terrible location, freeway congestion and out of the way.Encore;2852188 said:
I agree with that summation as well. While it has grown over the past three decades through increased visibility on cable television, the NFL Draft's core audience will always remain hardcore football fans.odog422;2852552 said:What I think (and hope) is that once the ratings come in, and they see the "average" fan is not going to tune in or switch from their regular Thursday night programming to watch it, while also suffering the losses from the west coast market, it'll be switched back to the weekend "for the good of the fans."

That particular segment of the viewing audience can generate favorable numbers in the Nielsen ratings on Saturday and Sunday late mornings and afternoons, times which both broadcast and cable television do not slot their primary programming, but that will not be the case for Thursday and/or Friday nights. Will the draft pry away viewers of Grey's Anatomy or even reruns of CSI:Miami on A&E? While I don't have the league's programming projections as a reference, I highly think not.
I would be willing to concede that possibility, but only if Goodell and the owners do not suffer some sort of financial drawback because of the move. All of the significant popularity inroads, which the league has experienced by showcasing the draft on ESPN and later on NFL Network, may slowly erode or could even possibly be wiped out by the draft's lesser visibility on a weeknight.Alexander;2852591 said:Even if this is a ratings disappointment, I still think the move to prime time would be permanent, perhaps on Friday night with the first round. Once that threshold has been crossed, I don't see Goodall going back to the weekend only format.

But he's successful for the owners and whether you are I like him much, he is probably doing what is best for them and that's not going to take the league down.
The NFL knows it has people hooked. And like an unscrupulous pusher, he'll continue to do as he likes without concern for us, all the while grinning and pretending he's "for the fan".
He's for growth and profit. I guess that is good for the league's potential as they'll gather more interest (hence revenue) from people it would not normally do, but I can say as a longtime fan, he disgusts me with his lack of respect for tradition.
