Thought maybe having a general Olympics thread might be handy. Of course I could be wrong...

So I heard that a legally blind archery dude broke a world record today?

So, just before opening ceremonies and the big Olympics stories at the moment:

* Will the US flag be dipped? (Better not be!)
* US volleyball players vow to wear bikinis
* blind archer dude breaks world record
* all the sexsexsexsexsex at the village
* only the UK athletes dorm has A/C
* and of course, who will light the flame?

I'm not one of those rah-rah, criticize everything that's not American type of guys...but I have to say, these opening ceremonies have been pretty lame so far...at least the last 30 minutes since I've been watching...

I'm 50 years old and I've watch a bunch of opening ceremonies and I can honestly say that this one is the only one that I haven't enjoyed.

I don't know if anyone can top the one from China - that was unbelievable.

The Beijing opening ceremonies were definitely the best.

What is the deal with this opening ceremony? It's just awfully kind of painful to watch. And these are the same Brits that absolutely shred every and anything American. Embarassing for them.

Exactly what I was thinking.

They had - The Industrial Revolution - The NHS - Peter Pan.....!!!!!!?????

Then that music bit reminded me of a Disney produced Super Bowl halftime show.

Yes i agree, the Opening Ceremonies were very lame. I thought to myself they could play "Chariots of Fire" and do something great with that. Than in no time they play it and some Brittish nerd does a comedy skit that was just awful. It was just all around bad.

The NHS? I actually lived over there for 3 years and there is no way anyone should honor that mess at all.
