2012 NBA Playoffs Thread

So with all this talk of ratings and what not, what matchup do you guys think would bring in the best TV ratings? Let's just say that the Heat is a given in the East...

I'd guess it would go:

1. Heat/Lakers
2. Heat/Thunder
3. Heat/Clippers
4. Heat/Mavs
5. Heat/Spurs
6. Heat/Grizzlies
7. Heat/Nuggets
8. Heat/Jazz

Maybe I'm a crazy biased OKC fan, but I really think a KD/LeBron showdown in the Finals would get huge ratings.

Heat/Lakers because people have been waiting for years to see a Kobe/LeBron matchup in the Finals and it didn't happen. KD vs LeBron would be 2nd best IMO.

Okay, cool, so it's not just me then. Yeah, people have been wanting LeBron/Kobe forever, so that would be huge. And since most think that LeBron/KD are the two best players now, that would also be huge.

Lol wut?

Love KD, but he's gonna have to start playing well in the playoffs if he wants to overtake Kobe. He didn't play well against Dallas last year, hasn't so far this postseason, and he played pretty terribly against the Lakers in 2010.

Against L.A. in 2010 Playoffs : 35%

Against Dallas in 2011 Playoffs : 42%

Against Dallas in 2012 Playoffs : 34%

No offense, cause I think Kobe is definitely the best "all-time" player of all players currently playing. He's a Top 10 all-timer, period. Kobe commands more respect than any player currently playing. And I've conceded that Kobe/LeBron would be the biggest ratings bonanza with LeBron/KD coming in second.

But Kobe right now versus KD right now? Pretty much every analyst and expert gives it to KD right now. All year long, we've heard that LeBron and KD are the two best players in the league now. I'm just saying what all the talking heads and fans think, and of course the more it's said, the more it's believed and taken as fact. Like it or not, that's the court of public opinion. Believe me, if the Heat and Thunder do happen to make it to the Finals, it will be billed as the two best players in the league going head to head. Cherry picking a couple of playoff series shooting percentages won't change that fact.

(And a Kobe fan really shouldn't be arguing with a KD fan about shooting percentages in the first place, that's a losing battle.. ;) )

The Sports Guy ranks the 20 most fortunate breaks an NBA champion ever received. Very interesting . Lots of Spurs titles on their. Lots of Lakers titles too. lol.

That guy hates the spurs, too! Besides, you can nitpick EVERY single champion and come up with a break/injury that they got to win the title, it's all subjective

I'd say it's

Lakers, OKC, grizzlies, spurs, mavs, clippers, nuggets, jazz

While the clippers are in a big market, ultimately the casual viewer wants to watch an entertaining game, and for that the games have to be competitive

While I appreciate the Clippers hate, the star power of Paul/Griffin combined with it being a big market team makes them a big ratings draw, I would think. Much more than the Grizz. The Grizz are a small market team and don't have any star power.

Star power alone isn't going to keep people watching, if the clippers play the heat in a series it would go about as well as its going for the Knicks. People might tune in at first but they won't keep watching once its a 20 point game no matter how many stars they have. I'd argue that an exciting team like the grizzlies, without stars or a massive market, would make for better games and more viewership.

Durant has to figure out how to have more success against good defenders before he can be called the best player in basketball. Guys like Artest and Marion still give him fits. If not for Westbrook (incredibly enough) and a lucky bounce Durant would have shot OKC into an 0-2 hole against the seven seed.

Okay, yes, after a couple of potential blowouts, that could be the case. But initially, the interest and ratings would be high. And the Clippers could give the Heat some trouble. I don't think it would be full out domination by the Heat.

While I do agree that great, physical defenders give KD trouble, he still ends up making big plays or contributing in other ways. First game, he had 4 huge blocks and hit a clutch gamewinner. Second game, he came up with 10 rebounds and got to the free throw line a lot. He's a winner and finds a way to help his team even when his shot isn't falling. And while I give Marion a ton of credit, KD has missed a bunch of open looks that he would normally hit. I'd say his trouble are about 50% Marion and 50% just a little shooting slump.

First off just because outplay someone in an individual matchup does NOT make you a better player. For example often times in their careers Deron Williams has outplayed CP3, but he's obviously not a better player. Parker also has a MUCH better team around him. He's got Duncan and Manu who while they're past their primes are still All Star caliber players along with a slew of very good players like Leonard, Green, Jackson, Spitter, Neal, Bonner, etc. it's a shame CP3 doesn't have a championship caliber supporting cast around him, but if Stern hadn't blocked the trade he would have.

CP3 is "obviously" the better player than Deron Williams? I wouldn't even say he's necessarily the better player at all.

What does he do better than Parker? Cooler moves? Sells more jerseys?

Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, Kenyon Martin is a better line up than what Parker has been working with

Based on what? Dunks?

He does everything better. He's a better passer, more efficient scorer, more clutch (He's been the most clutch player in the league this season), and he's a better defender.

Fair enough. I'll give you that. Not a huge gap, though. I don't think the Spurs would necessarily be any better with Paul, though.

As for Williams/Paul - that's a toss up.
