No true #9(Torres, Ba or Lukaku) in the starting 11. And no Mata starting. It really is looking as if Mata will be gone and he is a player I really like. Wayne Rooney will be starting for Man U.

rooney played inspired. playing with that effort he is no doubt world class.

mourinho played for the tie... very un-mourinho like.
VERY few chances.
should have started Torres and went to Lukaku at 60 mins or vice versa.
No presence up front all game til Torres came on except 125 pound Oscar slicing through.

Played with no striker first half. Both teams were not able to create offensively, but mostly Chelsea. No confidence in Ba, Lukaku and Torres??

looked like they were saying "hey, rooney" look at where we'll plug you in.

Lamela to Tottenham, as a Roma fan, I can say bummer. But reports are that the transfer fee is over $40 mil. Hard to pass that up.

Celtic pull off the late win to advance.

Was not good for the heart! Watched it on my phone in work (which was thankfully very very quiet) because I had to make up my hours as flying over to the States on Saturday and nearly broke the desk when the 3rd went in. The Old Man was there with a few of my mates, spoke to him after the game as they were heading for a few post match beers. Had a great, if very nervy night. Said the atmosphere was tremendous, particularly (obviously) after Forrest popped up with the injury time winner.
From a progression point of view I'd want Benfica, Schalke, Basel. From a glamour, and avoiding the teams we've played recently Real Madrid, Marseille, Dortmund.

I joked in another thread about Mourinho bringing in a striker he was familiar with in Drogba knowing it would never happend. I had no idea he would bring in Eto'o, another striker with close ties to him. He is definitely not yet that comfortable with the trio of Torres, Ba and Lukaku

Samuel Eto'o: Chelsea sign Cameroon striker from Anzhi

The 32-year-old joins the Premier League team on a one-year-deal.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was Eto'o's boss at Inter Milan when they won the Champions League in 2010.

"It wasn't a hard decision. I saw the qualities Chelsea have, and I was very happy with Jose Mourinho before, so when the opportunity came, I was very happy to take it," Eto'o said.

"I am very happy to be here but also anxious because I want to get playing as soon as possible."

Mourinho moved for Eto'o after two Chelsea bids for Manchester United's Wayne Rooney were rejected.

I really like the eto'o signing by Chelsea, I think he will fit in great with them. As for the champions league draw, it seems to me like we got some really good groups and some super easy ones, didn't get very fair groups, but it is what it is.

Gareth Bale: Real Madrid agree personal terms with Spurs forward
Gareth Bale has agreed personal terms with Real Madrid ahead of his world-record move from Tottenham.

However, the Spanish giants are still in discussions over the fee for the 24-year-old forward, with a bid of £86m already submitted to Spurs.

"While talks in Madrid took some days, this was always a formality," says BBC chief sports correspondent Dan Roan.

Thank the heavens for this because Real just deemed Ozil surplus to requirements and sold him to Arsenal!!!

BOOOM. Best derby day ever.

El Shaaraway talks going on to.

Incredible.

Messi with a hat trick today. And he was close to scoring a couple of more times.

Excited to watch Ozil at Arsenal.

I'm also pumped to see Sakho at Liverpool and this other guy Ilori looks good as well. I don't really have a favorite Premier League team but I'm beginning to lean towards Liverpool.

any good qualifiers this week?

draft Lukaku in your fantasy footy leagues.
Anyone seen Basel lately? The Blues are big faves but Mourinho is tinkering.
