I wouldn't spend big money or prime picks on CBs. It's been proven that no matter how many resources you throw at CB in Dallas, you never get anywhere close to your money's worth. Mid round picks and minimum salary vets should do, since that's the way they play anyway.

Sorry BDC. Maybe sit in stasis. I want him to play better or near the same level that he has and he isn't anywhere close. He still zigs when the QB appears to want him to zag is my biggest concern. Romo isn't coming back and if he cannot play better this team is going to be absolutely no fun to watch.

Are other teams lacking money? Do the salary cap increases only apply to Dallas?

Pretty clear what the outcome is going to be. Everyone has more cap space so the players cost more. How do you think we got to a point where a QB like Ryan Tannehill has $100m on his contract?

That's always been my argument. The increase in cap only effects our ability to remain cap compliant but it does not change our cap situation in relation to the rest of the league. They all get the same increase.

Yeah, but doesn't everyone want to come play for Dallas? I thought we were everybody's favorite.

Rather than compare it to the rest of the league I like to think of it in terms of what the contracts are going to look like at the positions we need.

For example, Ryan Fitzpatrick is a free agent. He ran a similar system to us in Buffalo and would seem a decent fit at backup QB if he is willing to take on such a role. There are quite a few WC quarterbacks as well. We could make offers to all of them easily but I don't see the WC guys as fits. ~$5m AAV, might be rich but I bet it gets it done for most of the guys on the list.

There are a ton of secondary players on the market. A lot of these UFA aren't ancient now that top 100 picks all get 4 year deals. You can go to sportrac and sort them and look. Now there are some big names on the market. Weddle could get franchised at 30. Berry, Amukamura, and Hall are all likely tenders but at the end of the day there are a ton of guys with expiring contracts for the secondary. Norman, Toler, Johnson, Robinson, Boykins, Jenkins, Sensabaugh, Nelson, Harper. Just an uncanny number of former top 100 picks. They all can't suck and end up tendered.

There is no doubt that we can get that player in the secondary Risen is so worried about us getting.

Looking at the defensive tackles I immediately covet Tennessee's multiple FA. Ngata on a 2 year deal would make me a happy man. Tender caveats apply of course and the depth is not very good here. These guys cost a lot. IF you go here your eating up all your cash quickly.

On to RB. Matt Forte's contract is up and the Bears have Alshon coming up too. He is likely to hit the market at age 29. Stealing 26 year old Alfred Morris from the Commanders would be absolutely delicious but I don't see anyone else they might franchise. After that it looks like a fair amount of guys at about Turbins level of experience and paygrade.

LB has a lot of age up top and a lot of guys at about McClain's level. We are likely to only tread water here in FA.

WR has a lot of obvious names. Crabtree, Holmes, Jeffrey, and Harvin. Is Austin or Benjamin better than Street? I think so. We should be able to upgrade the barren WR corps. This is a huge underrated need.

TLDR: Plenty of talented secondary and WR, DT is top heavy, RB might have Forte and Morris available with midgrade depth, QB and especially LB picking slim. Overall lots of talented 24-27 year olds on the market at some positions. Could be a bonanza.

Yeah resigning Mo would help but he's hurt again. If his upside is 12 games a year then I'm not offering him much unless it's year to year.

That might make you more comfortable in cutting Carr. We have them both over a barrell really.

Think I would cut both CARR & MO. Rely on Bryon Jones (dual roll capabilities) and then draft the best CB or S available...then back field would be set for the long term.

I would let Claiborne hit FA. If no one gives him decent money I would take him back at 4/12m.

Carr has to go.

Draft a CB by the 3rd or 4th and maybe keep BJones as a flex guy.

FA Stud CB's and dumping Carr:

Can we do it and who do you like as a replacement out there?

Well, we drafted a cornerback in the 1st round last year but he's looking like a safety. There could be as many as 5 CBs taken in the first 15 picks in this draft. I think this might be the most likely outcome for the Cowboys. Especially when you consider how poorly this team is run.

So you want us to draft a CB but no FA replacement for Carr?

no way

I would let Carr and Claiborne go and count on OScan and BJones.

Still gotta bring in a vet for insurance. Looking at Carr's contract it appears we might be stuck with him one more year but I'm no cap expert...

Sure, we can bring in a cheap vet and a mid-range draft pick. Anyone can get 0 INTs for a lot less.

Carr and his 9.1m salary has to go. It will save us that much against his 13.8m cap hit as a June 1st cut.

So I think we are projected at 20 million or something under the cap plus the 10 million increase would put us over 30 million under. Cutting players like Free and Carr plus restructures on players like Romo, Dez and Tyron could give us what 50 million or so.

We could get anybody we want in FA. Lots to work with. Would love to go in the draft with most holes filled

Everybody will get more money not only us. The Salary cap is not an absolut thing. It works relative.

Cap rises is in players interest. When it is raised players incomes will rise also. And players incomes rise unproportional to the salary cap.

That means top players will be harder to sign if you are a team that has less cap sapce sompared to other teams.

We are getting better since jj and his stupid son doesnt manage the cap anymore. But we are still not in a avery good place compared to the rest of the league.
