No disrespect towards you but it's obvious that you haven't kept up with Tiger since after his latest surgery. Yes, he wasn't the most personable athlete nor were his actions, whether on or off the course, something that a 'role model' should be displaying. Since his latest surgery, it's blatantly obvious that he's a completely different person or is working his butt off to be a better person on and off the course. When he was in his prime, you never saw him smile on the course let alone gossip with his playing competitor or congratulate his playing competitor after a great shot. After Molinari stuffed it on 18 yesterday, you could see Tiger walk past him and say..'One heck of a great shot man.'. After the round, Tiger spent time hugging his kids and soaking up the moment which is something that he would NEVER have done. He was too 'closed' and wouldn't allow the world to see him show any emotions other than that of a fierce competitor. He's trying. Is it too late for some? I'm sure it is but you can see that he's putting forth the effort to be a better 'role model' and for that I give him credit.

For goodness sake, have you seen his girlfriend? On TheBigEasy scale, she would be a 4/10. She's great with his kids and that's all that matters to him from what I've read.
The negative rhetoric towards Tiger is blatantly partisan.

Regardless Tigers personality and off field altercations his historic significance outweighs contrary to those rooting against his return to relevance.

They believe him not returning to his “old “ Tiger somehow discounts his determination and pursuit of history.

I’m an avid fan of golf. Been playing for 55 years. And competeted myself when I was younger and had the opportunity to meet many when my uncle played each year at the Colonial.

Jack will always be my favorite and as much as I’d like to see his record stand the test of time, Tigers historic run was cut short due to injuries no other golfer has ever overcome.

Few thought he’d ever return to any kind of relevance at all. I find the historic significance electric and I’m on the edge of my seat. I think it adds to the allure of the game with so many young great stars emerging.

I can’t imagine any Golf affectionate not enjoying watching the potential of history unfolding. And why it reeks of underlying agendas otherwise.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Unfortunately, I never got to appreciate Jack during his prime as I was way too young. I took up the game when I was a senior in college and was a single digit a few years later. Upsets me to this day knowing that I could have played in high school & college if I had just tried when my Dad would ask me to play. He started asking me to play when I was a toddler and it took 20 or so years for me to finally listen and accept his offer. Now, we play every Saturday, text throughout watching tournaments on TV and play against each other on the Xbox remotely. Without the game, I wouldn't have had all the memories of the time spent doing these things w/ my Dad and for that, I am forever grateful for the game.

The mere fact Tigers even in the hunt for a Major attempting a comeback after all of these years and surgeries when everyone counted him out is purely spectacular.

He obviously isn’t done yet at age 42 appearing to have the potential of becoming the oldest to win a major since Jack at age 46.

And anytime he is the hunt it’s going to be the top story because of the historic significance regardless if he’s someone your interested in or rooting against.

Carnoustie in the wind is really difficult; very few of the greatest golfers in the world were under par yesterday.

Tiger, Spieth, and a few others trying to make their move and win the thing, fell back after making some aggressive choices.
Jordan had an epic eagle on #1 Saturday, that could have easily turned into double bogey. When he drove into that lone gorse bush yesterday, he also cut his finger retrieving the ball.

The mounded fast fairways kick the ball in unexpected directions, and pot bunkers await. Playing conservatively usually wins, and that's what Molineri did, making no bogeys over the final 2 rounds. I've played that course, and it's brutal.

All a player can do do is put himself into contention, and Tiger did that in a big way. He's ready to win again, and the motivation is his kids; his previous magic was before their time, and he's determined to make them proud of dear old dad.

All I'm saying is when/if he ever breaks through, then I'll treat him like he is relevant again. Until then, He's just a washed up future all time great. I don't need to hear it every time that "Tiger made the cut!" on my TV or hear it on my car radio 24/7. They break away from the leaders just to watch Tiger miss another putt when he's 10 over par on every hole.

He's a has-been.

Sure it makes for an great story when he's "in the mix" in the British Open but those are very few and far between now for him.

He never seems to do anything now unless he plays in the "We all suck now Tournament!" Even then he rarely makes the cut. Yet they still keep fawning over him.

You're obviously not a fan of Tiger, but there are no "we all suck now' tournaments on the PGA tour.

People forget Jack also had 19 runner ups in the Majors.....Tiger has 6

I would say his competition was better than Tiger's

He had Arnie, Player, Seve, Floyd, Watson, Miller, Trevino
Tiger had more of a country club set.....Davis Love III, Payne Stewart, Couples, Duvall, early Phil

I’d agree Jack had more fierce competition

But Payne Stewart died tragically in 1999 just 2 years after Tiger hit the tour and Couples prime had passed . Davis only won 1 major and not a factor.

Duvall early on but he fizzled out . Phil along with Ernie Els, Vijay Sing and Retief Goosen were winning most of the other majors in Woods prime and his biggest competitors and often referred as Big 5 of that era.

That is my point

Jack's era guys played to eat........ Davis Love and the boys were happy to pass around the Majors as long as everyone got their share.....even Phil didn't win a Major until he was 33 and Tiger had embarrassed him for a decade

Tiger's dad was a huge part of the Tiger domination.....he intimidated those guys even though he was really just a skinny nerd...... Tiger won on the 1st tee against these guys...... he put Duvall in a mental hospital

These new kids aren't afraid of Tiger

They all talk about him as if he's on the cusp of being back whenever he has a lead or wins some no-name tourny. ESPN, Sports radio. You name it. It gets old to me. Dude is done.

Based on what? He looked great and finished 6th after leading with 9 holes to play. That would be a great result for 90% of the guys on tour. He is far from done.

He's not the best he's ever been but he's still easily a top 10 player if he can stay healthy.

I have kept up with him...facts are facts. If he was back, once he he the lead on the 10th it would have been lights out. The other golfers are no longer intimidated by him. Hope his girlfriends insist on him getting tested.

Tiger was always a strong front runner. He only gave up the lead once in a final major round. And only came from behind once to win one.

All you can be is the best of your era. This isn’t Tigers era any longer. At his age and injury history will no longer dominate or resemble the “old” Tiger regardless the level of competition this era. And this era has some stellar talent.

And I don’t see Tiger trying to be his “old “ self either. He’s just happy to be out there competitive again in the game he loves.

His shaky start earlier this year had to cause much doubt but this showing has to provide some confidence he can still hang which is quite an accomplishment considering his obstacles.

It’s a testament to his ability, dedication and drive to continue pursuing his place in history. The fact heeven cane close should send a reminder to everyone to never totally count him out.

I’m old , have arthritis and bursitis in left shoulder , been thru surgeries myself including open heart , emergency appendectomy and my right thumb almost severed in an accident losing 20% of my nerves which altered my grip.

It took time after each recovering and making new adjustments. It provides a greater appreciation for getting back out there as Tiger has done which he had nothing left to prove.

His career accomplishments in basically just a 15 year career on the PGA TOUR is already phenomenal. This is basically just his encore. And it might be one to remember before it’ over.

Nice seeing the first player from Italy win the thing.

Woods had the outright lead at #10.

The "old" Tiger would have then "strangled" the field after that and won by 3 strokes.

The "new" Tiger simply coughed up a couple hair-balls soon after and finished in 6th. A nice finish compared to where he was not long ago, but still searching for his 15th major.

That's a great point you bring up. In the past Tiger would cruise to victory once he had the lead on day 4.

Yeah, and this point has been beatin’ to death this morning by all the pundits (no offense, Win)

He used to crush the psyche of his opponents on the back nine. He is older now and trying to beat the yips that derailed his career.

It’s still an awesome story from the golfer with the highest peak in, arguably, any sport, ever, all-time

That was one of my biggest disappointments as a golf fan to date. Sorry but that jug doesn't belong to Stewie Cink. I'm a bitter Watson fan. Can't ya tell? :D
Yep. Along with Tiger beating Rocco at the Torrey Pines Open and Phil spitting the bit at Winged Foot. I was at Winged Foot following Phil and it was incredulous seeing it unfold.

Tiger needs to get his head on straight. He hasn't been the same since he got the snot beat out of him with a nine-iron by his wife. And that was before the surgeries. The "injuries" that followed just seemed like one big excuse to me. That's just me though.

Most 40-year olds aren’t as good as they were when they were 26 or 28.

But clearly Tiger hasn’t helped himself w/self-medicating and other issues.

I watched a ton of the tournament starting from the early round 1 t-times. I was in the dumps yesterday as all my remaining guys faded. Spieth is my favorite golfer ever.
