We need an open passing competition. I don't want an over priced free agent so if those guys want big money then no i'd rather keep dak 1 more year and see what you have in mike white as well as drafting another QB in the 2nd or 3rd if we can. We should always be grooming our QB's replacement.

Wasted thread...

Because no matter if you like or dislike Prescott, they will not bring in a high-priced QB to provide competion.

Simply will not happen.

Quite honestly I don't view most of the FA QB's as upgrades... But that's beside the point.

What probably will happen is that Dak will be working with a new OC... That is realistic.

I agree completely that's the most realistic and likely outcome, but shame on you for rubbing realism in our face when fantasy feels so good after yesterday.

Dak has another year on his rookie deal so I wouldn’t be interested 8n any of those QBs right now. I would make Dak play out his contract. I would however give him a new OC with a system suited to his skill set and a legitimate QB coach with experience to guide him. My goal would be to develop him into solid QB I would be happy giving a long term deal to and building a team around. If he doesn’t improve enough to warrant franchising him or giving him the money he want, he will have to be let free to test the market and I would deal with needing to find a QB then. Free agency, trades, and the draft will always be available. If it takes a year or two to find one, so be it. That’s life in the NFL when you hitch your wagon to a QB and he doesn’t pan out. Hopefully Dak will and I would give him the tools to do so in his final year before paying him.

Granted, the Cowboys organization loves Dak for some reason, so this discussion might be all-for-naught. But contrary to what the "we can't get anyone better than Dak right now" crowd says, there might be a few options, if the Cowboys wanted to explore them.

Here's a list of potential free agent QBs this offseason:

> Teddy Bridgewater -- catastrophic injury is completely behind him now, and he's only 26. Showed flashes in the 2018 preseason. There will probably be a big market for him.

> Joe Flacco -- Looks pretty evident that the Ravens are ready to hand the reigns to Jackson. Doubt they'll keep Flacco as their backup

> Jameis Winston -- Pretty much a headcase, but he's 25 and would come relatively cheap.

> Derek Carr -- was playing at an MVP level 2 years ago before getting hurt. Gruden is cleaning house, so may Carr may be purged also.

> Ryan Tannehill -- He'll probably be retained by the Dolphins since they Osweiler is their only other legit QB with experience. But Tannehill has proven he can't lead the Dolphins anywhere, so they may cut bait.

> Josh McCown -- old but reliable. Would he be a good stop gap?

> Brock Osweiler -- has played better with the Dolphins than he did with the Texans or Browns. And he's still only 28.

> Tyrod Taylor -- he's a good leader and has had moderate levels of success. And he's only 29.

> Ryan Fitzpatrick -- Fitzmagic in Big D for a year or two?

Who would you be intrigued by? I'd take 4-5 of these guys over Dak right now.
:lmao::lmao2: what on your fantasy team? not sure you realize this but the Cowboys are keeping dak most likely at least 2 more seasons...he will get extended and maybe one of those guys is abetter Backup then we have but these threads make me LOL as you somehow think because you think Dak is being replaced and itys not reality,.these are wasted threads..

They should have not forced Romo into retirement and let him and Dak compete. Yet another huge mistake by this team.

And Dak will still be overthrowing and underthrowing receivers. A new OC isn’t going to do anything if Dak is the QB. You need an accurate passer beyond 10 yards to win a title in the NFL.

I've always liked Teddy B and still believe we should bring him in to help and push Dak. Right now there's no competition at the backup QB position. As much as I like Dak, I have always said competition breeds success. The same applies regardless of the who or the position.

If you would take the time to read, I stated literally in the first sentence that replacing Dak was probably unrealistic. But good try.

Foles is the only one on this list to even consider. Then again the 3 teams who knows him best is in our division.... pay Dak and stay 8 and 8 maxing out the cap.. take Foles for a decent amount nabbing a qb 1st rd year after next and keeping the team we have.

Good grief, most of those guys are worse options. You just haven't watched them as closely as you watch Dak.

I can only assume the last 4 guys were put on your list for comedic purposes.

I get why everybody is down on Dak. But he is a 4th round pick in his 3rd year so maybe he needs one more year to mature.

We all see his flaws. When I watch him play games like yesterday I wonder what happened to the Dak we saw in 2016. Did they coach that out of him and if so, why? Dak used to use his feet a lot as a rookie. Now, he'll go an entire game without ever taking off and running. He stands in the pocket like his shoes are nailed to the carpet. Plus, he is slow to see the field and make the throw. Then when he finally sees the throw he pats the ball 3 times and takes two or 3 short steps before he releases. After that process he throws the ball high, low or anywhere but at the receivers numbers. But then he can deliver a bullet right at a receiver for 15 or 20 yards.

A lot of things went wrong yesterday, not just Dak. But all the things that went wrong we have seen from the Cowboys at times during the year. Yesterday all of their warts were exposed on the same day.

I would like to see one game with no offensive or defensive holding calls. I would like to see Dak scan the field and take off if nothing is open. I would like the Cowboys defense to play like they did against NO. In that game they tackled like they meant it. Yesterday, every time the first guy hit a Colts ball carrier, the guy still gained 4 or 5 yards, at least. Very few guys stopped in their tracks. Not a good day for the defense.

What's wrong with Mike White other than he can't beat out our #2? Is he even still on the team? Does he suck? I have heard nada about him.

Ryan Tannehill has improved his deep ball but he's been injury prone and has zero pocket awareness.
Seems like a nice dude, but he just never really developed all that much since 2012. Probably didn't help the Dolphins O-line has had Torrin tuckers and Livings for most of his career but yea he's not the answer.

Besides, they just restructured him. They let Suh go and ate that cap hit, but I'm not sure they do the same with T-Hill unless a new GM/HC comes in.

Meh. Maybe Foles or Bridgewater. Probably Carr, although Rayne Dakota has much better chemistry with Cooper than Carr does. At least recently.
