There is another side to that making the playoffs in back to back seasons, validation that real changes need to be made in how this team is operated.

Anything that allows Booger & Son to say "see, we know what we're doing" is not in the best interest of 6th ring seekers.

Failure can bring pressure and pressure can bring change. Pressure in the form of media criticism of management. He wins the East again, job well done to him and enough to keep the fans coming.

You are absolutely correct.

But we’d need failure of epic proportions for several years not only on the field but ticket sales and revenue to plummet which isn’t likely . Even then it’s not clear if it brings about the changes that are really needed from the top.

I’m afraid the fix is in and we’re stuck in this perpetual pendulum of drama driven by relative and interesting until death does us part for better or worse. A marriage from hell with our ownership. The good news is at age 80 the end is nearer. It is what it is .

We are less than 90 days from the start of the 2022 NFL season and this year shapes up to be another crossroads moment for this organization.

As a team/organization, the Cowboys have been at this place 7 times in the last 22 seasons. Can they follow up a playoff season with another? They have only done it once in the last 22 seasons. 2006 and 2007- that’s it.

Why is having back to back playoff seasons important? There are multiple reasons:

• It would break the bad habit of killing organizational momentum. Back to back playoff seasons show your organization is capable of staying competitive for more than just once in a while. It also shows your organization can build something that lasts longer than a season.

• It would establish Mike McCarthy as capable of leading this team beyond what Garrett or Phillips could. If the Cowboys don’t make the playoffs in 2022, Big Mac will have only made the playoffs 1 of 3 seasons. And I’m almost certain he would be fired.

• Failure to make the playoffs in 2022 would once again reinforce that JJ is incapable of hiring a HC who is able to building a winning culture. I don’t think Jerry has ever valued the importance of having a HC that can command the room AND the organization. He’s only hired two that could do this- Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells. The first brought us SB winning rosters and culture; the latter was the last to provide a culture capable of having back to back playoff seasons. (Yes I know Phillips was the coach in 2007, but those were Parcells’ players)

IMO, the culture is what’s killing this organization. The unaccountable culture the Jones boys have created is by far the biggest challenge for this team to overcome. Making the playoffs in back to back seasons would be a huge step toward this team being playoff relevant again.

None of us know whether or not they will. But it will sure tell us a lot about whether or not we are an organization that can ever be more than occasionally relevant. Here’s hoping 2022 will be different.

This. Another meaningless regular season with another crushing defeat in the play offs ahead of us, with our offense racking up meaningless numbers in the first 17 games which turns everyone into a believer again.

At least our off-season so far hasn't given me any reason to think otherwise. And until that first play off win I won't.

Actually I think we couldn't be further away from a crossroads season. 26 years and counting.

You see the Arkansas Al Davis bought the Pokes tipped the waitress and early success went to his head . Fast forward what 33 yrs ago and we’ve hit a Death Valley stretch with roadkill and no gas stations for 200 miles.

Al Davis had the same script . Some early success with John Madden and then Tom Flores did some good then it was a series of guys named Tom Cable and co with Jamarcus Russell and Sebastian Janikowski novelties. Al Davis Jones son Stephen , hoping he can get the car to the gas station at some point. Al’s son in Vegas not doing that great.

McCarthy has gotten a raw deal. Aside from the last 2 months last year he has not been put in a position to succeed. All the injuries year 1 were beyond his control and this year they stripped the roster of pro bowl talent due to locker room problems and didn’t replace it.

This is not a super bowl roster. The Cowboys season actually rests on…..Jaylon Hurts. If he takes a big leap for Philly they could walk to the NFC East title

I agree the culture that Jerry has brought to this team has been its downfall. And the ONLY way I can see that changing is hiring a great mind that takes over the team as a head coach or having an elite talent at the QB position where his play inspires the team to run through a wall for him. Someone carry the team in those big moments. That kind of play becomes contagious and that would get this team far into the playoffs if not a SB.

As TC draws closer, I'm getting more enthused by the day! I'm seeing good things on the horizon for this team. It might well prove to be a bit of a slow start but as things get going after the initial start, I'm expecting this team to come around in fine fashion. I'd like nothing better than to see us bearing at least a 10-7 record as we head into the playoffs again with invigorated zest. If it seems as though I'm getting excited, kindly be aware that it's true!
Cmon, folks -- shake off the doldrums and get with the program! It ain't all bad, it's good! Let's enjoy the ride, OK?
The offense will still be good and the defense -- most likely, better! Perk up, dang it!

The problem with the Cowboys is they are never at a crossroads, which implies a change in direction. They go down the same road forever. They are convinced if they just keep heading in the same direction they will eventually get to their destination. Things like coaching changes, don't change the direction either. They just stop the bus let one coach off then let another coach on. But the bus, driven by Jerry and his mini-me, keeps heading straight ahead.

Maybe someone needs to lube the steering mechanism.
