Penn State lost to Oregon in the conference championship and they were rewarded with a better bracket and 2 layup games to get into the Semifinal. Meanwhile Oregon is going home

It's all about money - the committee knew what they were doing. I'm sure they are VERY happy with this Semifinal. There will be 4 historical programs with large fanbases/alumni network...lots of money to make.
Yeah, they need to fix how they do the seedings.
I don't have an issue with letting in 5 conference champs, but 4 of them should not be getting automatic byes.

Ohio St losing to Michigan was part of this mess. The 4 best teams this year were Ohio St, Oregon, Texas, and Georgia (pre QB injury)....those 4 should've had byes and been split into separate brackets. Ideally

Just to Clarify...... UGA was losing to Texas and the back-up lead the second half comeback. UGA has struggled on offense all year with the exception of the first Texas game. In the half of football we've seen so far, the offense looks better with the new QB.

Plain and simple, ASU was screwed by the ESPN/SEC/crooked officiating everyone is talking about right now....haven't found even ONE casual observer who doesn't think that wasn't targeting with 1:30 left....that was just beyond belief. Both guys in the booth and the officiating expert thought targeting was gonna be called, and they then turned into total kitties when it didn't and SAID NOTHING......total shills for the network!!!

If you want to protect players then those types of hits should be penalized at both college and NFL. There are too many loopholes in place to give the refs ways to not enforce it but in the end, it's dangerous and you have to force players to adjust. It was a helmet to helmet hit and the WR's head bounced back after the contact and that's not good. We can argue about crown of the helmet or did he lead with it, etc. but in the end, you have to flag it and the rules should adjust to make sure that it can always be enforced.

Based on the current rules, was it worthy of an ejection and missing the 1st half of the next game? I would say no. But at the minimum, rules should be in place to where the defender has to be penalized for it somehow. Even a minimum 5-yard penalty like when they used to have the 5-yard facemask vs. the 15 yard facemask.

100% targeting. Not calling that targeting is a joke.

At this point, dump the rule if you can't get the call right even using replay. ASU had a bad kicking situation so you can't say with certainty that cost the win but it was a huge spot in the game and you just punt on making a tough, but clear call? **** with that.

Based on the current rule............

"That could be leading with the crown of the helmet while making forcible contact, or making forcible contact with the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet."

And.......... a defenseless player is.............

"A player attempting to catch a forward or backward pass, or a player who has completed the catch but hasn't had ample time to protect themselves or hasn't clearly become the ball carrier yet"

I am not sure how one concludes this was not targeting based on the rules above.

No doubt.
None.

Even the NFL refs have come forward on "X" to say how that was CLEARLY targeting.
Very easily could've cost ASU the game.

The only reason I say maybe is b/c if it came down to a FG, their kicker was awful.
But maybe they just take it in for the TD anyway.

Criminal no-call

Georgia is in trouble! So far it's looking like the byes have not helped. It's not like the NFL where you are just finishing a grueling regular season and the extra week off is needed. Instead, all of these teams already had 2-3 weeks off between the end of the college season and the first round.

In regard to targeting, here's the NCAA rule:

Per the rulebook, a few examples of targeting are as follows:

  • Launch-a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or neck area
  • A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area, even though one or both feet are still on the ground
  • Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area
  • Lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact with the crown of the helmet
Taaffe's lid certainly made contact with Stovall's helmet. But the typical tenets of targeting — the launch, the crouch, the lowering of the head — weren't quite as easy to spot. That might've been the Longhorns' defensive back's saving grace.

Now they're in bigger trouble.

UGA can't get out of its own way. But, this is how they have played all season. They have Texas's number but have mostly struggled this year. They lead the FBS in dropped passes.

The QB running is killing them. I can't believe UGA still doesn't respect his legs. No spy on him.

I can't believe ND won't call plays so Price can get outside; a sweep or toss or something! IF he turns that corner, he's gone!!

Georgia is done...no chance with that backup QB. I knew it was over when they were inside the 15 and tried a corner fade to the endzone
