How many fans believe the organization has taken a "soft rebuild" approach to the 2024 season? If so, what do you think the plans are going forward?
The only rebuilds Jerry Jones has ever led were accidental. Jimmy led the 1989-91 rebuild that set Jerry up for those 3 SBs.

Then by 2000, this team was once again adrift. Then Jerry hired Parcells to sell his new stayjum. Fortunately, just like when Jimmy started, Jerry was so busy with the business side of things, Parcells was able to inject a decent rebuild. Found a diamond in the rough with Romo. Then retired. Again a rebuild where Jerry wasn’t in complete control.

Jerry then hired Wade Phillips to try and win with Parcells talent. Lasted for a little while until 2010 when Jerry foolishly kept Wade after a bad end to 2009, with Phillips on the last year of his contract. (Sound familiar?) And then JJ fired Wade midseason, and promoted the terribly unprepared Jason Garrett.

One thing Garrett did do along with personnel scout Will McClay between 2013-2016 was a soft rebuild that resulted in some great OL drafts and the drafting of Dak Prescott and Zeke Elliott which provided a new influx of talent to build around. But Garrett and JJ’s FO could never figure out how to build around what they had. Garrett was let go (finally) after a near decade resulting in only 3 years of making the playoffs.

Then in 2020 the Mike McCarthy era started. I won’t rehash that but it’s pretty clear that Jerry Jones neither knows how to rebuild nor has the guts to even try. He worries waaaaaaaaay more about being “relevant” (mediocre) than ever having to take the bitter pill of a rebuild.

Soft rebuild? I honestly do not believe Jerry nor his entitled son have a clue how to really rebuild a quality roster in the cap era. They…don’t…know….how.

If you are picking top 15, what position would you target first?

Beast RB
Stud WR,
G
DT
DE

There’s so many holes on this team. The lack of weapons kills them in the red zone but they keep getting whooped because they can’t win the fight up front.
Can't answer that question at this time. Not enough information given.

Who is released before the draft?
Did we pick anyone up in FA?

RB class is deep, and with RB demand falling it would most likely be a mistake to go round 1.

We are struggling in the trenches on both sides of the ball. So I would take best player available between DT, T/G or DE.

You’re losing DLaw. There won’t be money for splash in FA but they will be more active because they have to to fill out a roster.

Cooks is gone. I think Osa is up after the year. Don’t know if Dowdle has any more years left on his deal.

Martin retires. Kendricks is up. Bland enters his contract year next year.

Holes everywhere.

Good post. It's nice to see someone who knows the historical background of past events. I've been a fan since 1974, so I know every word you said to be true.

As to being relevant (mediocre), that is in part what a "soft" rebuild intends to accomplish.

Like many decisions made in the organization, they are mostly agreed upon collectively. I do think Jerry weighs in too heavily and becomes a menace. So to say that they don't know what they are doing is true. They should leave the decisions up to a more competent GM. Sadly, they are incapable of doing so.
